CHECK DAY #6 (APR 09-2023)


Hello guys.
Here we are at a new check day.
 

Hitting the midpoint at the last one, this was a really busy couple of weeks.

I've received updates from almost everyone on the project, with plenty of demos, and updated versions of their maps.

Thank you so much for all your hard work.
 

From my end, I used these two weeks to test all the Wads you sent. Really cool stuff, I can't be any happier.
 

The only mapper I had not received any news from is @Angry Saint.

It seems they have been absent from the forum for some time now, and I have no other way to contact them.
So, if anyone knows a way to contact them please let me know.
Since there are still some slots left I'll keep that spot claimed, but I'll drop it if needed.

 

Now. About newcomers, I want to give a warm welcome to @purple_ruberoid and @RileyXY1
Can't wait to see what you prepare for the project.

 

This means we are now with only 4 spots left, so if you want to join remember we are open to new claims till MAY 07.


So, now we are back at the simple format of checking. A simple ok or like to this point will do.

I don't have a finishable level yet that can be tested, but I made some new things.

Still up ! I corrected the problems you mentioned before, and so the work for my map continue. I have another personal project alongside and had a lot of inspirations for it lately, but be sure I don't forget my map at all ! It will be finished in time for sure.

Concept defined (including secret schema), MIDI selected, and starting room construction started. Tentative name: "Planetary ziggurat". I'll add images hopefully next check in once there's something to really show.

 

@RED77 I saw in the rules custom skies are allowed, can I add like, 2 or 3 custom skies for my map? I could make do with 1 but more would be preferable for the theme.

Totally intrigued by the title. Thanks for the update @DFF 

Plus, yes, you can add the sky textures, be sure to add them to the final file

I've decided that I want to create a level that involves a mansion and it surroundings. So far, I don't have much to show though.

In the meantime, I've been experimenting with large size textures. Turns out that the software renderer supports textures as large as 4096x4096, as can be seen here:

Very intrigued about the mansion. Sounds like a fun concept. 
About custom textures, we are working on a 3 limit for each mapper, so the visual aspect is more coherent thru all the maps.
I presume those ones are just for testing, but please keep it a little bit more on the current texture pack style.

...To be honest, I'm not sure I'm going to have a finished map. I didn't have a lot of inspiration for the theme to begin with, I haven't really felt creative for this map in a month, nor have I been playing Doom much at all. So at the moment, it's a big question mark whether this map will get done.

Completing the map went faster than expected. Here's a first version. I'll do some more gameplay tweaking and visual polishing later. And maybe try turning the diorama "puzzle" around to have it make more sense.

Hey @exl. That's a pretty solid map.
Nice visuals, nice music, and interesting secrets.
I only have three notes:

There's this bleeding texture by the red door:

3)The final secret felt like I was pressing random boxes till I find which one activates the exit. Maybe giving it another twist?
 

2)This map is on the easy side. I don't mind at all, but this means It will be changed to an early spot on the final WAD, is that ok with you?
