[Community Project] 666CRETS - A CP about secrets (PRIVATE ALPHA 0.2 )

I have finished my map, except for difficult setting which is missing. It is playable in "explorer mod", if you like. I'm not sure I will manage to add monsters before 25/6 deadline, is it ok to post it anyway just to keep the slot?

🔹 Description: secrets, fake secrets, detours, fake detours, distractions, fake distractions - have fun.

I just need to Populate the last rooms with tons of enemies, but at this point I cannot send pictures unless they are in 3d mode or in the map itself, anything beyond that would ruin the magic.

🔹 Notes: I need feedback about the combat and secrets. I think it may be too easy, but at this point I can't see it by myself after testing it for the 666th time...

Ok, so now there is a major issue, a door that is vital for level progression, and ISN'T connected to another door... is now completely broken, it won't open and I don't know how to fix it, I'm gonna keep trying but soon enough, I might have to redraw that whole sector (which will take forever)

Hey @Azafran. great level. I like it a lot, and, yes is on the easy side but that's not a big deal for me.
I especially loved the generator scene with the flashlight. great detail

About feedback, I only have 2 notes:

  1. Remember that on the easy skill should be no items
  2. I would hint at the yellow key secret a little more, cause I find it for mere chance on my first run and struggle to remember where it was on the second one


Other than that I think is almost done.

The hint to the yellow key is the projected light that comes out of the invisible door that is also flickering, plus you can see it on the automap. I thought it was easy (of course I already know where the key is! lol), do you mind if we wait until someone else playtests the map to see if they struggle to find it too?

 

What's your opinion on the combat? Do you think anything should be different?

I think it's ok. I would push it a little harder (especially on hard mode) but I had fun.

@Angry Saint.

Ok, I've played your map.
fist of all I think it's really well-crafted a full of interesting visual gags.
I love the robots, great touch.
And the torch hunt is another great highlight.

Now, My concern with this map is that have some very specific gimmicks that can lead to frustration for the player:
-a lot of multi-step switch hunts
-a lot of pseudo hints for misleading the player.
-very obscure texture differences for triggers 

So, I'll tone it down a little bit on the dead ends, get rid of the sound dead-end sound triggers misleads in general, and use bigger texture differences for triggers. 

If you want a more in-depth revision let me know (It's not my goal to compromise your creative vision for the map)

@RED77 I double checked the maplist, says i'm slotted for map14 instead of map15. I thought i claimed 15, its not a huge deal but does matter if I include extra secrets and a secret exit, which i was planning but i could also work out if needed

So Was about to post my map but then I decided to play it in PRboom, turns out I need to fix it because otherwise the monsters get stuck in eachother

uh... I don't know why but my map has 2 Ghost Secrets...aka there is 8 secrets but only 6 are achievable and no matter what I do there is not a secret sector...

oh my god... I forgot to untag the little exit signs

Hey @DFF, since there'll be not enough maps for a megawad I don't think a secret exit would be necessary. You can add as many extra secrets as you want as easter eggs, but only tag the ones that granted access to the exit, so the final count for secrets on the map is 6.

yeah I think thats funny as I'm pretty much done now, just doing playtesting...need to make sure its not too difficult! (aka you can't move, so far results have been...disappointing)

🔸 Ports Tested: GZDoom, Zandronum, PRBoom+

🔸 Difficulty Settings: Yes

🔹 Description: you're in a building, but just something isn't right, it slowly gets easier and easier the more you progress (its totally not because I was just stumped on puzzles and braindead (it totally is))

🔹 Notes: ultra-violence might be a little too hard but idk I nerfed it extremely before I completed it, also my PC Crashed twice running it on GZdoom so... yeah take that how you will.
