MrFroz Posted January 16, 2023 (edited) Hello everyone, This map was originally part of the "Bonus Levels" episode of my Blood-inspired mod, Blood: Dead on Arrival. It was one of only two levels that I made from scratch specifically for that TC during 2018. This map is heavily based on the Wild West era level of the Duke Nukem spin-off game, Time to Kill. The geometry is almost identical to that, however, the textures are from Blood, which I was surprised at how well they seemed to fit the map's design theme. Ideally, this should be played with a recent version of GZDoom on Hardware Mode, due to the fact that the level features 3D slopes. However, I added a "Software Mode" which is selectable from the main menu that removes the 3D slopes and improves compatibility for those using GZDoom's Software Mode or another source-port like Zandronum. The gameplay here is a bit more difficult than that of my previous wad from 2016. I received feedback that that level didn't provide enough challenge so I spiced things up for this one. If you're having trouble completing the map, I suggest trying an easier difficulty setting or finding the secrets. The secrets aren't too many and a bit hard to find but each one can help a lot. RastaManGames Posted January 18, 2023 I remember that I've completed "Duke Nukem: Time To Kill" in my childhood! That was strange, but nice game. And this is very nice map of yours! I wanna see several maps in this setting and with these textures (they are fitting that setting). Personally, I think that this map deserves more attention. Short, but very sweet and interesting to explore. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Proxy-MIDI Posted January 18, 2023 That was a very good map ! I had a lot of fun ! By the way, this is a crime in 2023 to fight a cyberdemon with a rocket launcher only. Shame on you ! :P More seriously, even if the end with the archvile was a bit sadistic I had a good time on this map ! Nice stuff ! ;) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

LadyMistDragon Posted January 19, 2023 (edited) Well, that ending was extremely predictable. I didn't find the indoor super shotgun until there was like 20 enemies left. I did recognize some of the layout and some of the midi as well although you couldn't resist the Blood textures and strippers, it seems/ It was unfortunate I never finished Time to Kill. mancubian_candidate Posted January 21, 2023 Howdy howdy, really enjoyed the map. Looking forward to more 😄 That music brought back memories from my childhood, the Octabrains (even in Duke 3D) always freaked me out! Here's my playthrough: 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Short, but very sweet and interesting to explore. Currently, I am making another map, this time its one based on the city level of DN: TTK (the one that serves as kind of a hub throughout the game). As for western-themed maps, unfortunately I don't have nothing planned for the time being, but I do have an idea which consists of making an expanded version of this level. Check the 11:03 mark of the following video: My map ends as soon as you enter the red brick building, however, in the original DN: TTK wild lest level you can actually explore that building and there are many rooms within it. I might do an improved version adding all that, but when I'm not sure. On 1/18/2023 at 8:24 AM, RED77 said: Cool map. It feels like a western Thanks! Nice stuff ! ;) You can find a secret Plasma Gun, and also a secret BFG, but the secrets are kind of hard to find. In the version of this level that was featured on Blood: Dead on Arrival, you were supposed to find a Napalm Launcher here where you find the rocket launcher, and you were also supposed to fight a Cerberus instead of a Cyberdemon. When reconverting this back to Doom 2, I tried matching the Blood enemies/weapons with the closest Doom 2 ones, however now I realize that the Napalm Launcher is way more potent than the vanilla D2 rocket launcher. I still stand by my decision to have a Cyberdemon because last time I used a Cyberdemon in a Doom level, it was in 2011 for my second map "A Marine's Dream", and back then it was kind of a joke because you had too much space to maneuver and there was a secret BFG in the level that was very easy to find right before that. I feel like this time there's a little bit more threat to it, and I like the idea of having a big monster roaming through the little town. I finished DN: TTK and I think the level design was pretty good for the time, still holds up pretty well. The music was also nice. I need to finish Land of the Babes and I have still yet to try Zero Hour. If I do another version of this map, I might edit the strippers' sprites to fit better the time period. 19 hours ago, mancubian_candidate said: Howdy howdy, really enjoyed the map. I'll message you when it's done. Also @RastaManGames, @Clippy, @Rex705 and @mancubian_candidate thanks a lot for the videos. I love seeing people play my maps and I think that you came up with some pretty cool mods to play this map with. Rex705's video especially looks like a full-blown western. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted January 28, 2023 I'm late to the party, but I love a good Western and this map didn't disappoint. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'm still chuckling at the bit where you get to the livery and call it "The Pinky Stables", haha. Wish I would have thought of that when I was making this. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
