Andrea Rovenski Posted January 21, 2023 Sometimes when filling a wad there's a map or two that really pisses me off, but I force myself to do it anyway and I think it really helps out with my memorization skills, but man it can get frustrating. So I wonder if many other DOOMERS do the same? Would you push yourself to do an hour of demos for a map that makes you pull your hair out? (can also apply to category that makes maps unfun, or level of optimization is such that its just an rngrind but you still do it anyway) 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
taedev Posted January 21, 2023 Yes, I did a run I didn't like: Christmas Cheer from the Chillzone map 33 stroller. I liked the map, but not the run. I knew it was possible and I wanted to see it done, and no one else was going to do it. For the most part, the map better be good, or an IWAD tablefill. I don't have all the time in the world to play games I don't like. I might do some maps I'm lukewarm on, just because they're easier and the training will help me do better on harder maps I do like. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
BigBoy91 Posted February 10, 2023 Nah, I really don't. If I feel like a run is tedious or unfun, I quit. I'm not huge on grinding. My DSDA page can attest to that. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
4shockblast Posted February 20, 2023 (edited) Sometimes, yeah, usually because I'm trying to table fill a WAD for a particular category or just as a challenge. Not every IWAD run is particularly fun and not every map is cool, but sometimes going for record on those is interesting because they are competitive. Also, for speedruns, there could be awful maps with really fun runs and vice versa, so it's not really the case that just because I don't like a map that I won't enjoy running it. For example, Sunlust map 30's imposing atmosphere and architecture are a fantastic way to end the set, but running it isn't necessarily that much fun since it gets old really fast. However, when there's just one pacifist entry left in a table, it's hard to resist the urge of closing that for me. :p Edited February 20, 2023 by 4shockblast 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kinetic Posted February 20, 2023 You never start out running a map you don't like, it's after you begin the run, that you begin to not like the map. :^) 11 Quote Share this post Link to post

Grazza Posted February 22, 2024 Sometimes I'd come across a map that was clearly bad from any objective standpoint. But if I noticed some aspects of it that would make for an interesting speedrun, I would happily record on it. I'd then tend to put a warning about map quality in the txt. That might include maps with huge expoitable bugs (e.g. invalid tags), such as too1337. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
