Just wanted to mention that I have started on my map, I'd say it's about 1-1.5/5 finished gameplay wise, although I'll do aesthetics after.

yo know what? alot of people seem to like it so if anyone has it I guess you can throw it back in because I don't even possess it anymore. I just wasnt sure if this CP was gaining any traction.

Seems like it's only definitively missing like 3/32 maps (Nobody told me about id, endgame, and map30) which I'd say is pretty good

Of course, I understand but yeah even if I doubt it will have all maps inside, still seems like it will turn out pretty good by this point. I wasn't trying to go against you.

I'm just helping Johnny get this to a release, as well as learning more about editing wads in the process. I don't know if it's anything to do with me or Johnny, might just be personal reasons. Either way, I'll be sure to remove both maps from the next version, as well as remove the previous versions from the folder later.

sorry guys - im not well at this time - I thought Dubbo left and was feeling like leaving too because this doesnt seem to be run very well

 

but if nothing more is needed from me then it's fine if my map stays in - I dont want to make things worse

 

and as for dub map I may have it but dunno - need file name

Oh yeah, random question maybe on my end, more a thing of future proofing, but for my map also might be good to put in the text thing like not only the usual copyright stuff but also like something about not allowing any AI training on it or something. I know you can't AI generate doom maps rn and maybe I'm just paranoid.

 

I'm just kinda worried if a doom mapmaking AI thing is ever made in the future and decent quality, it would just lead to people taking a bunch of maps for AI reference without the proper mapmaker permission, and then using them to pump out a whole lot of incredibly low effort, but passable quality wads that would drown out most wads with effort put behind them by newer mapmakers, so I'd prefer to put a clear disclaimer on at least my maps to avoid people using them for that (and I think most mapmakers should do too for the future).

 

Edit: Although actually it would be better to just inherently not be allowed to use maps for AI learning unless you get permission.

This has existed for a while now. It's called oblige. It has some more recent forks, the most popular being obsidian. I don't know how they trained their AI though. I would like to think that people have more care for carefully crafted work than quickly stamped out maps, bit that's my optimistic side speaking.

From what I heard Oblige simply uses prebuilt presets within the program itself and arranges them in a sensible but random way, which is different from full on AI generation as the latter would probably be more varied as it would generate 'its own content' and would instead be analysing given maps to create new ones, which would make it easier to hide and much more likely that the user is using stuff without permission. I could be wrong about Oblige though.

Yeah, makes sense. I just don't know how much people would be willing to do that or care for it. Personally, when I play a map made by a mapper I like, I do it because I know it was carefully created by that person and not just something in his style (though homages are fine). I'd like to keep optimistic about people thinking like me, specially in a community such as this where a lot of human interaction is involved.

Also, should the slots left be updated? Not sure I've been counted as being in the project yet. Admittedly though there's some confusing parts like whether map 09 is taken or not.

Sorry to ask, but I think the available slots should be updated, since at least map28 and map30 are taken (along with some others on page 15's tracker by doomgappy that are not on the main page's) despite not saying so on the tracker. Excited though for this community project to be ready! @Johnny Cruelty

I like the theming so far, but as a form of constructive criticism, the second room's lighting is pretty flat, which causes the large amount of texture variation to look especially jarring to me. Also, I think that perhaps the ceiling shouldn't be grey rock since the contrast between it and the rest of the room also feels somewhat jarring. Those are just my personal thoughts though, keep at it!
