Welcome to die (Updated)

Recommended Posts

Hello there.

After getting some great feedback on my first map I decided to try and make another one.

This is the next map in my Dommedagsnatt "series".

The map is MAP02 in the wad.

I've tested the map on PrBoom+, dsda-doom and GZDoom.
The map is in the Boom format.

It was made without freelook or jumping in mind, but feel free to use whatever makes you happy.

The wad contains two maps "Welcome to die" is the second map.

I think this one is way more challenging than the first map in the wad.

I hope you will give it a go.

DOMMEDAGSNATT_v0.865.zip

Changelog:

Removed a mid texture near the exit

Removed teleport trap from the yellow key room

Did a whole lot of improvements to the yellow key room

Added a small bunker to the final stretch

Added two more secrets.

Ammo balancing

Tweaked a secret

Fixed some textures

Spoiler

The title is a reference to this. It always cracks me up.

Agreed, just as fun as the first one. I replayed the first one and found it much more pleasant this time around but i still left the lvl with like 15 health. Well I always play on despite my circumstances so once again i was scrambling around almost dead the whole map. I almost feel it was made more fun by my need to be more careful. Once again the difficulty seems to hit that sweet spot. Not easy by any means but not so hard that you need to grind against it. The design work and texturing also go a long way towards making these maps some of the more interesting ones that pop up. Thanks for making these.

Just as fun as the first map, hope you keep working on this!

Thank you. I will definitely keep working on it. Your video made me realize I need to do some polishing here and there. Especially in the circle room. The fight looks like it got very tedious near the end. I will look into that.

Thank you for playing. I'm glad to hear that I'm hitting that sweet spot. I really feel like that's where the game shines. When you are only a few hits from dying you can really feel the adrenaline pumping.

As for the circle room you may want to keep in mind that as its set up now there is room for multiple stratgies. Ive done it at least 4 different ways. Once where I pulled everyone out down the tunnels (kinda sucky) once where I went in guns blazing and made a giant mess (kinda fun) once where I just kept circling and let everything kill each other (kinda easy but effective) and any combination of the above. I personally wouldnt change it because it suits different play styles and different player skills. Just my 2 cents

The first map already felt like someone who'd screwed around with an editor for a bit. But this one really feels like such a step-up! It's pretty nice how these aren't so in your face difficulty-wise, yet really manage to end with some climactic fights.

I took your advice and kept the circle room, but added some more features, like an elevator to the second floor and some tweaks to make dealing with the last few monsters a bit less boring (I hope) ;)

Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm too lazy to playtest on my desktop PC, so I'm usually testing on my laptop using keyboard only. I think that is why my maps end up being a bit on the easier side, for people using a mouse. Haha.
