I won't be able to access the chatbot, unfortunately.

If someone could generate a MAP04 description for me that would be swell.

Region locking?

This is pretty hilarious so far:

  Hide contents

ChatGPT:

Green Key Room: Located to the east, this room contains the green keycard needed to access the next section of the map. There are several monsters to defeat and a door to the secret area.

Yellow Key Room: Located to the west, this room contains the yellow keycard needed to access the final section of the map. There are several monsters to defeat and a lift that leads to a secret area.

Me: I think there's an issue with your response. There is no "green key" in Doom 2.

ChatGPT: I apologize for the mistake. There is no green key in Doom 2, Map 11: "Circle of Death". Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Me: What color key is it instead?

ChatGPT: In Doom 2, Map 11: "Circle of Death", the key required to access the next section of the map is the blue keycard.

At least yours corrects itself, mine just apologizes and proceeds to repeat itself without any changes.

Asking the bot if there's any secrets in the map is pretty funny. If you ask where they are, the bot will refuse to tell you because they're secret. Asking where the bot would hide secrets if they made the map (funny because, well it did) gives you a list with the first one being behind fake walls, meaning the bot is a big fan of TNT.

same, i just can't get it to make the secrets. I will make some myself

Yup.

@Snowy44 I can generate it for you tomorrow after work, if no one else does it before me. Let me know if someone does, if not, I'll PM you!

Thanks a bunch!

Finally done with my map. With this one, I tried to preserve a careful balance where you just about have enough ammo for everything, however, it's also pretty easy to run out, so exploration/secret hunting is encouraged. Graphically, I prioritized following the AI's description above following the original, and, as a result, it looks basically nothing alike.

@iddq_tea - Should we keep the original name of the Doom II map that ours is based on, or are we free to change the name in the MAPINFO?

EDIT: Along the same lines, can I use my own MIDI or do we want the respective Doom II track to play for our given slot?

@iddq_tea I think I discovered something very interesting and it may help others with their prompts. I first asked the AI about what the lore is for Doom 2's MAP07: "Dead Simple" related to what kind of place it was and/or is. I then asked it for a written walkthrough.

The first prompt was: "Give lore for Doom 2's MAPXY: "Map Name" related to what kind of place it was and/or is."

And then the second prompt was similar to what you have right now, that being the walkthrough thingy.

The first time I tried it, the AI gave me much better detail about what the places were, and their purpose in the map! What do you and the others here think?

That actually works really well!

I'm claiming MAP18, and will be using this technique for it.

@Anarkzie @ONETAPPYBOI Added!

@LOD42 Interesting, I'll check it out, but I don't think I'll be taking any more maps so it's just out of curiosity.

@Snowy44 I'll have the descriptions done tomorrow, sorry about the delay, I am just absolutely exhausted right now and it's almost midnight... can't be bothered lol

@noisebloom I prefer to keep the map names as they are, but as for the MIDIs, there was a suggestion to make them all AI-generated, but I'm not sure how that's going to work yet. If we find a good MIDI-generating AI, we'll use that, but nothing is certain yet so keep that thought on hold.

There's this really cool website: https://openai.com/blog/musenet/

I've been able to generate MIDIs on it before, and it's even able to take in existing MIDI data as a basis for output(though it only uses a specific of instruments), so basically, you'll be able to get the start of a song and let the AI continue it from there.
But around mid-december of last year, the main part that generates MIDIs stopped working, and it may not be back for a while. I tried looking for alternatives, but the ones I found are pretty limited, the closest one being: https://tones.wolfram.com/generate The wolfram one isn't AI though, and only generates up to 15 seconds. perhaps it's worth a try though? Eh, might be too much effort for so little

I'd like to do MAP05 "The Waste Tunnels". Is there a deadline?

Also, I would like a description generated for me. Thank you!

P.s. I don't mind generating it myself but for the sake of simplicity and "freedom" I just want something to slap together. Get the creative juices flowing lol

Yo this is a brilliant idea. I'd love to have a go at MAP24 "the chasm".

here is the initial prompt I got btw:

"The Chasm" is the 24th map of Doom 2 and is known for its challenging difficulty and unique layout. The map consists of a series of interconnected rooms and narrow walkways that lead to the final boss battle. Here's a walkthrough of each room in "The Chasm":

Starting Room: You start in a small room with two staircases leading up to two doors. There are also two Shotgun Guys and two Imps in the room.

Room with Lava: The first door leads to a large room with a raised platform in the center and lava surrounding it. There are two sets of stairs on either side leading up to the platform, and two doors on opposite sides of the room. You'll find two Shotgun Guys, two Imps, and a Cacodemon in this room.

Narrow Walkway: The second door from the starting room leads to a narrow walkway that winds around the perimeter of the lava room. You'll encounter two Imps and two Shotgun Guys on the way.

Elevator Room: The first door in the lava room leads to an elevator room with two sets of stairs leading up to two doors. There are two Imps and two Shotgun Guys in this room.

Lava River: The second door in the lava room leads to a narrow walkway along a lava river. You'll encounter two Imps and two Shotgun Guys on the way.

Room with Pillars: The first door from the elevator room leads to a room with several pillars and a raised platform in the center. There are two Imps and two Shotgun Guys in this room.

Narrow Walkway with Lava: The second door from the elevator room leads to a narrow walkway along another lava river. You'll encounter two Imps and two Shotgun Guys on the way.

Final Boss Battle Room: The door at the end of the second lava river walkway leads to the final boss battle room. This room features a raised platform in the center surrounded by lava, with a narrow walkway leading to it. The final boss, the Icon of Sin, is located on the platform.

Overall, "The Chasm" is a challenging map that requires quick reflexes and good aim to navigate. The layout of the map is designed to make it difficult to maneuver, with narrow walkways, rooms filled with enemies, and lava rivers that can quickly kill you if you're not careful.

There's no rush, you can do it whenever you got the time.

I've not had any luck making an account; if someone could ask Skynet for some map 17 data, that would be awesome...

@RastaManGames You got it! I'll generate the descriptions for you. I'll get around to it after I'm done generating Snowy44's descriptions.

@antiburier Added. The deadline will be set shortly after all the slots have been filled. If you don't mind waiting, I'll get around to generating your descriptions after I've done it for others, otherwise you're probably quicker to do it yourself.

@BeefGee Lol, Icon of Sin on map24. This is exactly the kind of chaos I was expecting to come out of this project. You got the slot.

@Lutz Will do!

PS: I will be updating the thread shortly to contain some info regarding the prompts and what format they shall be saved in. I will ping every contributor once I do to ensure no one misses it.

Completely unrelated question: what WAD is displayed on your profile's banner? It looks incredible.

No, this one is just a funny reject from when I first tried generating it. Use the one I PM'd you (MAP16.zip), that one makes more sense since it actually matches the suburban theme. Or I can generate a third one if that one's too bland. In the end, your pick.

I've realized that this community project might be named "Doom2GPT", since that method can be applied to "Ultimate Doom" maps as well.

ONETAPPYBOI and I talked about this, I almost named this one Doom2GPT actually, but then we decided that the Ultimate Doom equivalent could be called UltimateGPT. Doom2GPT kind of sounds like a sequel, even though there hasn't been a prior GPT project and we didn't want to confuse people.

Final Doom could similarly be called FinalGPT.

(ffs Doomworld is being buggy, can't even edit that)

-do you still need help generating the descriptions, or did you already do it yourself?
