I recommend BloodRust

 

The best map mod I have played in around two years.

 

The levels are not too dense, yet not vast. It's quite intuitive to know were to go. Enemies are in reasonable number. Overall map structure is quite rational, making sense of the 2D.5 grpahics.

 

I will be looking for more from the owner of this mod, Simon Judd.

BloodRust is a humble but cool mod that always struck me as a kind of merger between Alien Vendetta and The Darkening Episode 2. It is not that well known these days but doesn't take long to finish and is well worth the play if you aren't sure what WAD to play next.

i agree! managed to play up to map07 (will definitely continue). the 2-decade old mapset is arguably mediocre in the aesthetics department compared to today's "standards". but the gameplay and mapflow? chef's kiss! kept pulling me further and further into the map, level after level after level. love the monster placements and the subtle incline of gameplay difficulty. in a strange way, the interplay of elements in the maps somehow reminded me of [chris hansen]'s mapset [gore] 🤔. anyway, thanks for the awesome recommendation! ❤️

@doomlayman thanks for the recommendation. I played the whole thing and had a lot of fun.

Like @rita remton said, it might not be superfancy for today's standards but it is appealing and fun to play.
