Help with LAN

So I want to play Ancient Aliens with my girlfriend in local co-op. But for the love of God I cannot get it to work. I've tried Doomseeker with Zandronum, I've tried fucking with the settings in GZDoom, and I am utterly exhausted as I've been at it for hours. For some reason, in Doomseeker it thinks I'm in fucking Britain. I have no clue how to get it running, and it frustrates me there's no simple way to get local co-op running on a 30 year old game.

I will consult the ancient texts for you on this matter. Let's see here... page 12... here it is...

Ask @Doomkid

Right. Sound advice.

@ChillyBones you need to explain your problem in more detail. What are you doing, where do you think it's going wrong, and why?

For reference, connecting to a server on a LAN is extremely simple, you just use the IP address or the hostname of the other PC on the network that's hosting the game. You don't even need doomseeker for this task, and in fact trying to use it may cause you problems as by default they only show you servers from the master server lists, which are all WAN based rather than LAN.

Well, I'm trying to just start a co-op game of Ancient Aliens with my girlfriend. I've tried a ton of source ports, but none of them work. She can't connect to my server if I make one, and I cannot connect to hers if she makes one.

I'm not sure what source port is best for LAN, and which will work, honestly. I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing, I'm simply setting a server up yet it's completely invisible to her. But if she makes a server, it shows up for me, but it's stuck on the console saying: "Connecting to (IP Address)"

What ip address are you using, and how positive are you that it's the IP address of your PC? Are you also both sure you are actually on the same network?

Last I knew all Doom ports only support ipv4 as well, make sure the address you're using is 192.168.###.###.

Launch GZDoom like this

gzdoom -iwad DOOM2.WAD -file aaliens.wad -host 2 -warp 01

your gf would have to do
gzdoom -iwad DOOM2.WAD -file aaliens.wad -join your.i.p.adress.

After you launch the game, you can pause and tweak anything you need.

If you save a game, you can load it at startup with -loadgame saveXY.zds

This is simple, just chill.  Both computers need the latest Zandronum bundled with Doomseeker (GZDoom uses garbage peer-to-peer multiplayer, dont even bother with it.  Zandronum == multiplayer, GZDoom == singleplayer).

Both computers open doomseeker, options>configure>point it to the .exe path for your zandronum.exe and click apply.

Click Create Game button under options, define your IWAD and any PWADs, check the box for Broadcast to LAN at the bottom left of the window, click host server.

Once the server is up, she connects to it through doomseeker and once she gets in (she must have a valid copy of the IWAD and the exact same version of the PWADs that you are using, if not then give her a copy of the files) she must then type in the console(~) connect xxx.xxx.x.xx to your IP address that is displayed at the bottom of the window that pops up when you host a new LAN server.  And that's it.  The wife and I do this all the time when allfearthesentinel.com is down.

Life would be even more easy for you if you create an account on allfearthesentinel.com (free and they never send you any emails and they dont sell anything) and host your server on their servers and hardware that you both would connect to which would take all the load off of the hosting computer.  And you can password protect the server or limit it to only 2 players if you chose.  Doomkid's tutorial on using allfearthesentinel.net is pinned under the Multiplayer forum on here already.
