Grassy chunks Posted February 15, 2023 (edited) In the gothicTX texture pack, there is a wall texture with the name ADEL_Y72. It, as i think, has a face on it which to me, resembles the face of Hitler. That face is also used on the ADEL_Q43 texture again... So,is anybody here who knows it's origins?. Edited February 15, 2023 by Grassy chunks Didn't included the reference images beforehand. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SilverMiner Posted February 15, 2023 This face is shown in Final Doom for win95 installation 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Cammy Posted February 15, 2023 This face in higher resolution is also the titlepic of the incredibly weird TC Ni'mRoD. Not sure who the guy is but he's definitely not having a good time. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Fernito Posted February 15, 2023 Whose face it is, I have no idea, but this seems to be the source: 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
BakedBunForMe Posted February 15, 2023 Huh? weird. As mentioned by Cammy, the Nimrod wad has, to what I belive, the actual picture cause on the final doom cover, the man's ear is missing whereas in the nimrod cover they are there. Also, the guy seems like he could be most likely a monk living somewhere in Greece Or europe.. Speaking from the fact that gothicDM has influences from the Greek architecture as well. That ADEL texture looks like a low quality version of the face from Nimrod rather than coming from the final doom coverart. He seems simmilar to this guy also when looking up the sky (ableit with his mouth closed and having a bald head) (Image sourced from the music video of enigma Sadeness part 1) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gifty Posted February 15, 2023 It's definitely sourced from that old Final Doom magazine ad, although who that guy is we'll likely never know! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted February 15, 2023 Isn't it a Quake texture originally? It'd make sense that id had the original source if they could make the Final Doom ad from it. Anyone has the Nightmares in the Sky book to check if it appears in it? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I don't really like PC Final Doom, but this image and the typography is perfect. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Or how they kept marketing it as the last Doom game as if the name was literal. Or how the PS1 version is mentioned on this ad which is an almost totally different game and certainly doesn't have 64 levels like mentioned on this ad. I still really like this ad though. They really missed out on also selling Terminal Doom, Last Doom, Omega Doom, Closing Doom, Definitive Doom, Hindmost Doom, Crowning Doom, Furthest Doom, Doom: The End, Doom No More, and so on. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

To be fair I interpret "The Ultimate Doom" as meaning the ultimate version of Doom, as in Doom 1, not the franchise. Which is still technically true as SIGIL is technically not fully official, even if it comes with the current digital releases of Doom 1. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

All versions of Doom 2 (even v1.666) are capable of loading the Final Doom IWADs with the -file parameter, though this method of running the game isn't demo compatible with the actual Final Doom executable. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

His personal website no longer seems to be active (redirects to Photoshelter), though the Flickr link I posted above looks to have the full repository of high quality advertisement art I recall being on his website. There's maybe 2-3 other Doom ad photos there, if you care enough to browse through: https://www.flickr.com/photos/98274432@N00/page1 As for determining the identity of the face in the picture, I'd say your best bet is to inquire Reens himself. His Twitter and Instagram are both active, both having posted in 2023, though it looks like his Instagram account has posted much more recently (within the last week.) I don't see a problem with asking. *shrug* Edited February 17, 2023 by Caffeine Freak 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
