Doom, but every Enemy has a BFG

Hello everyone, it's my first time posting something like this. 

 

If you look at the title, I think this mod is pretty self-explanatory. Made by my friend Enator18, he simply changed the attack of the Arachnotron to be a BFG ball, then swapped out every enemy's attack to be the Arachnotron's attack, thus making every enemy shoot a BFG ball. For extra mean points, he swapped out melee states with the modded BFG attack too, so whiffing a Pinky bite or Revenant punch won't work >:) 

 

Lost Souls and Pain Elementals also shoot BFG balls instead of charging and spawning Lost Souls respectively, and the Archvile shoots a BFG ball instead of doing its blast damage attack. 

 

This mod works with any port since it uses DeHackEd, and is meant for the original IWADs, but you can try it with some PWADs if you're brave enough :)

Here are some demos of the first three levels of doom 2 being beaten with this mod on Ultra Violence. This is all that I have managed to complete so far. Map02 was by far the hardest so far.

Thought I'd play through some Doom 2 with this. Up to Map 8 and it definitely transforms the maps. Suddenly lone enemies in sniping positions are lethal - Chaingunners are now ridiculous. Trying it in conjunction with some slaughter maps leads to hilarious results.

What difficulty were you playing on for doom 2, also were you doing pistol start or continuous, and where you using saves? Because I have been trying to play doom 2 with this on uv pistol start saveless and it’s brutal. I have nearly beaten map04 but not quite.

I actually tried this and it’s really funny, but probably impossible to clear. Basically in the first room, when you wake up everything, 90% of enemies are dead in an Instant, but there are some chaingunners alive at the back that you can’t deal with before invincibility runs out

I suck and I cleared it first try, there's so many invulns and all monsters can infight. Still, it's a fun 6 mins.

Nuts.wad is definitely possible, just did it.

I'm playing on UV, though I am using saves. I don't have the time these days to grind out complete levels over and over, so I have used a couple of saves at certain points. Map 5 proved particularly problematic.

Oh cool, I just beat map04 finally saveless and am on to MAP05. You are probably smart to use saves, for me, each map has taken hundreds of attempts (except map01 ofc) with map02 in particular taking 686 attempts.

Yep, nuts is most definitely possible.

If there is Hell and has a special corner for Doom players, it probably looks like this.

 

I tried it in Gzdoom, but I noticed one flaw: actors of the same type can kill each other only with "splash" damage, they're immune to direct hits. In other words, they can't kill each other if there is a large distance between them.

Yeah, unfortunately thats just how the engine works. Projectile attacks cannot harm enemies of the same type, only hitscan attacks. Not much I can do about that given that I want this mod to be vanilla compatible.

@Enator18 Deus Vult 2 has secret exits which were presumably used during development. I reverse-engineered one of them, you need to press 3 more or less random linedefs in correct order to open it. Speedrunners have been using them for a long time, although I'm not sure if there is a complete list somewhere.

I wanted to try this one, too. Actually pretty fun, especially the duel with the chaingunner :)

It’s a bad idea for a normal game that is meant to appeal to a broad range of people, but this is an interesting challenge that you have to be a certain type of person to find fun.

 

EDIT: hold on i thought you were talking about when Id was gonna give the cyberdemon a bfg. I think it’s actually a really cool idea to give a boss a bfg for your map, whoever said it’s a bad idea is lame don’t listen to them. As long as you put reasonable cover and add long telegraph frames beforehand it should be fine. Also maybe give it another attack or two that it uses in addition of the bfg to add some variance.

5 is almost definitely possible. It’s just annoying

I made some more demos. Map07 was fun, it makes me remember how it felt to play that map for the first time as a kid :)
