  1. 1. Which one is the most painful event in Doom?

    • Stepping on ammo pickups when maneuvering around rooms during fights, therefore wasting precious ammo
      10
    • Having to obligatory grab a soulsphere/megasphere to press a switch or go through a narrow corridor
      24
    • Not being allowed to backtrack after a fight section to collect leftover ammo/health

Here are three really painful options to choose from to elect Doomguy's true worst nightmare!

Definitely the second option, less so if its a soulsphere and moreso if its a megasphere. I usually like using as much health as I possibly can and leaving health pickups for future me to stumble upon in their hour of need, If it's a forced grab, it kind of makes me panic a little bit.

D:E's Ultra-Nightmare took me I think 4-6 tries and on one of the last ones I died on the second phase of the icon of sin. I had probably done that fight like 15 times in a row without issue as practice, and the first time I reached it in UNM the game threw a truly bizarre amount of cacos at me. I never saw it before or since.

Definitely being forced to pick up green armor with no way around. Accidental pickups are not an issue as I can just reload, but being forced to downgrade you armor absorption from 50% to 33% really sucks. Don't really mind with the balls, but green armor gets me going... I only ever pickup up the green armor if I have none, or am at less than 5% of blue armor.

I don't consider any of those to be particularly painful; maps usually give a lot more resources than is strictly required, so wasting a little here and there isn't a big deal.

I chose:

Not being allowed to backtrack after a fight section to collect leftover ammo/health

IMSO, this is potentially the most catastrophic, if you barely survive a telehorde at the end of a level and then can't go back to collect resources you left in reserve, you might be up creek if the next level is a difficult opener, and never mind that this level ended on a hard note. It's happened to me more than once...
