Client side rules and restrictions?

Recommended Posts

Ive watched a lot of Quake duels and players tweak their configs to allow for max visibilty and Im wondering how acceptable that is in Doom. Im guessing it wouldn't actually help much at all but im curious about the rules now.

1. Which client side settings are restricted? Stuff like: crosshairs, removing view bob, removing pain palette effects, hiding weapon sprite etc

2. What about visual wads? Can I make a wad that replaces weapon sprites with much, much smaller/simpler sprites and a reload progress bar for the supershotgun?

3. Are the rules basically: use the right complevel and don't use slowdown/show remaining alive monsters?

If it's allowed in dsda-doom's strict mode (enabled by default when recording), it's generally fair game. Visual WADs other than those that come with the WAD you're running are not allowed.

Don't mess these together, first is TAS feature not allowed in fair run, second is OK and commonly used nowadays, although should be mented in txt.

IMO crosshair usage should be too at least described in txt. Though it is useless in general gameplay (considering vanilla weapon sprites), it can bring huge advantage on IoS hole sniping maps.

PS IIRC mouselook not allowed too, although it wasn't mentioned.

I think you're confusing the kill counter with the feature that actually shows you where the remaining monsters are through the wall. The former is allowed, the latter is not.

Wait, are crosshairs actually controversial? I always thought they were just a quality-of-life feature for people unwilling to risk damaging their monitors by marking the exact centre of the screen with a pen.

No, it is just my opinion about crosshairs. Are you think old compet-n players really marked their monitors then played on lv30? Though it makes sense (really worth it) on d2all max runs.

That makes sense, I thought it was weird that 'wallhacks' were allowed.
