NOW LOOKING FOR COMPOSERS! Look, we've all been there. We download a PWAD to play, load it up, spend some time playing it, and then after finally completing the ordeal you are met with a familiar bass lick and the backs of several zombiemen who are unaware of the entire adventure you just had. Yep, it's The Underhalls baby. This Community Project is a tribute to all those times, a celebration of The Underhalls and all the single-level PWADs that helped us get there. It's The Underhalls, but across different alternate universes. Want to make a tyson map called "The Underbrawls"? Go for it! Want to go the other route and make a micro-slaughter map called "The Sunderhalls"? Sure thing! As long as you reference the original map in some way or another. As a rule of thumb, if one can play it and feel reminded of the original, it's got the Underhalls DNA running through its veins. For this project, while we'll be using stock Doom 2 Textures the palette will be OPal, a custom palette for Doom I and II that I made a while back that makes things warmer in appearance. I've included a picture I took of a map with OPal to show how it looks in action below. Spoiler Note: This picture is only for demonstrational purposes, it's not a part of this project. It's actually my old Morior Invicus map that got lost when my old computer died. IWAD: Doom 2 COMPLEVEL: 2 (limit removing) RESOURCES: Doom 2 Stock Textures (with OPal as a custom palette) SOURCE PORTS: DSDA-Doom, PrBoom+, GZDoom, Crispy Doom, Etc. Map authors can claim up to 2 slots MIDI composers can submit as many MIDIs as they like MARCH 22, 2023, 12:00AM UTC APRIL 22, 2023, 12:00AM UTC (Added additional time since now we have a full MegaWAD in the works) Note: My timezone is +8:00 UTC, so I'll give a little bit of leeway on the 23rd of April. Don't rely on it too much though. IT'S DONE WHEN IT'S DONE Spoiler FOR MAP AUTHORS: Map must be Maxable in about 5-10 minutes in all difficulty brackets (leave about 2-3 minutes worth of room for blind runs) No jumping/crouching, freelook is optional but must be playable without Test your map in at least two ports before submitting it to ensure compatibility (such as testing in both DSDA-Doom and Prboom+ Puns are encouraged for your map title, but not mandatory Additional Note: Map order may be rearranged towards the final week of submissions to create a smoother difficulty curve, save for MAP07 if it uses any of the specials specific to that map (eg. tag 666 and tag 667). MAP15 must also include a secret exit to the bonus maps. In true Underhalls fashion, we must play through the original Underhalls first before getting to the custom content to pay respect to the original. Additionally, players looking for the full Underhalls Experience (Trademark Pending) can load in a single-level PWAD beforehand to play through before getting to the meat of it (h)all. Why are there only 15 slots available? Since this is my first Community Project, I wanted to make it a bit more on the manageable side and not bite off more than I can chew so I chose to cut the slots in half to ease in keeping track of everything. If there's a lot of interest, I might add the remaining 15 slots to the roster but at the moment I'm just "testing the waters" so to speak. Well, a lot more people signed up than I originally thought so I opened up the floodgates for a full megawad! Hopefully we can make it happen. You can map something if you'd like, and if it works out I'll increase the map limit to make room for you since there's actually a lot more interest than I initially thought. This would had been an honor to map something for this project, but I'm already involved with some other projects. I'll follow this though ! DiR Posted February 23, 2023 You know what, I'm adding the extra map slots since this filled out pretty quickly.
