Most satisfying moments in Doom

Tell me some very satisfying things.

I'll start:

  • Lining up enemies for a Super Shotgun bowling strike.
  • Finally killing that darn Vile
  • Beating Sunlust on UV

  • Buying the game
  • Installing the game
  • Playing the game
  • Winning the game

And if I'm being serious, moments like rocketing imps or pinkies if they are far enough, and hearing the arch-vile death sound are very satisfying. Punching a cyber-demon is a really cool act in theory, too, but personally I only have to do it, yet ;)

TEOS's DOOM ASMR:

- Hunting Barons and Hell Knights with the adrenaline fist, that's a real Popeye way to brawl.

- Backtracking for supplies and health in the peace and quiet of a level I've just turned into a demonic graveyard.

- Leaving a level with maxed out health and armor, with no demons left to kill or secrets to find, the UV MAX experience basically, never gets old.

- Watching Revenants and Heavy Weapon Dudes die by the dozens under a rainstorm of my rockets.

- I've always really digged the Berserk powerup, and the chainsaw from DOOM 3, they make things nice and personal.

- Also some of the machine sounds from DOOM 3's Alpha Labs, mainly Sector 4, make for nice relaxing background ambience.

- The noises those spiders from DOOM 3 make when they pounce upon you is kind of pleasant, makes ya feel like the game wants to play with you too.

- I've always liked the super saturated feel to DOOM's original Hell textures and some of the Altar designs from the first game.

  • The sound of an SSG going off and a Pinky death sound at the same time
  • Gibbing lower-tier enemies with a berserk fist
  • Triggering an archvile's painstate right before you were about to get roasted
  • Getting chaingunners to infight (bonus points if they stay alive and kill more enemies by stunlocking them)
  • Slamming all three keys into a triple-key gate and watching them open one at a time

  • Figuring out how to steal a guardian monster's treasure and get away clean.

  • That release of tension when a saveless attempt at a level finally hits the exit and screenwipes to the intermission image.

  • Every time the instinct of "Wait a minute, that spot looks different..." is rewarded with an "Aha, I found something!"

100%ing a level without even trying to do a 100% run, reaching E1M8 in Doom 1 for the first time as a much younger person, blasting a room full of enemies with rockets (the BFG just doesn't have that same punch to it), any opportunity to use Berserk

Managing to complete an engaging fight first try while narrowly dodging multiple projectiles (tends to happen with mancubi most often in my experiences).

(shameless clip from own stream below as an example)

When an Imp gibs a zombieman. A very rare thing, as the Zombieman has to be heavily damaged (1-3 HP left) and the Imp has to max roll for damage (24). The Zombieman basically has to be hurt from infighting, because the player weapons can't really get him to the required range other than rocket splash. Very rare, but always a LOL moment for me.

Getting all that ammo after clearing a room full of hitscanners.

Bonus points if there was a vile or two with them so you get a bunch extra.
