The Doomworld Mandalorian Thread, Season 3 (WARNING: SPOILERS!)

Recommended Posts

READ NO FURTHER IF YOU DISLIKE SPOILERS!!!

Season 3 of The Mandalorian launched on Disney+ yesterday (March 1st, 2023). What did you think? Did the kid's induction ceremony and his subsequent rescue catch you off guard as much as it caught me? I thought it was a flashback.

Discuss, please!

Same here! I wanted more. I've felt the same way about a lot of the better Mandalorian episodes - they're too short!

Always leave 'em wanting more, I guess... *sigh*

Oh hi Lee didn´t know you liked Mandalorian as I do :).

I didn´t know that season 3 launched yesterday so color me surprised, how was the action and cinematography btw, was it as good as previous seasons or did dip in quality like Book of Boba or Kenobi?

I'd say it was just as good. I'm excited for the upcoming episodes.

Im excited as well. They had to touch on a bunch of different angles from the history of the show as well as intoduce some new threads this season will most likely unravel. So there were a lot of scenes that all were pretty well thought out and pulled off wonderfully but none of them really explored too much as they needed to get to the next act. And as previously stated the episode was not very long. I for one am all in and dont see why this wont follow in the line of quality displayed in Kenobi and Andor. They seem to have learned from the mistakes of Boba Fett.

This tvshow is the best thing has happened to the SW univers since the old trilogy... the episode is short but manteins the quality of the previous ones and that's more than enough, fingers crossed.

Here's a little treat that someone put together out of the theme song to The Mandalorian. It's quite nice - all of the melody/harmony parts are done using Trombones, played by one guy! Check it out:

Damn good episode, seemed very short though or was that just me. Yeah I thought the opening scene was a flash-back also and was confused as hell when the Naboo Star-fighter flew over. What was great was, I was minding my baby son when I put it on and he was fussing. Soon as Grogu showed up he stopped and watched the rest of the show, first time I've seen him take any interest in TV.

Glad to see they seem to be bringing back the IG, thought he was a great character.

Between this show, Andor and Kenobi my interest in Star Wars has re-kindled in a way I didn't expect after the sequel trilogy.

My honest opinion, it was a good episode but it was not as good as the first episodes of season 1 and 2, they were way more epic. This one seemed to focus on setting up the bigger story more than anything. I kind of wish it focused more on a single story like the previous seasons did.

But I am excited to see if IG-11 will be able to return. I felt like we didn't get enough of him in the first season, and having him finally come back as Mando's droid side-kick would be awesome. I was hoping for that in the first season.

I also thought that it was a flashback. I think rumours even mentioned that season 3 will start with a flashback.

But while I was thinking the kid does not look like Din Djarin, I was happy that this was not a flashback. It was a good surprise.

Liked the whole episode, had a nice feeling seeing Din Djarin and Grogu back.

I really liked the ?slug, snail? mechacrab. It was a really unique alien species that I dont think Ive seen anything like in any other scifi or fantasy before.

There really wasn't much to complain about in S3E2. I liked their envisioning of a fusion-bombed-out cityscape, with everything turned to green glass. I do wonder how anything survived below ground, though, but I'm sure there's an explanation for that.

Yeah, makes you wonder about the story behind it. Does it invade droids and steal their bodies or does it somehow build them. The large crab body I assumed was a mining droid at first but I'm not sure now. Creepy and well designed.

Little confused by Bo Katan's heroics, assumed she would be a future enemy after Din took the Dark Sabre but she risked her life to save him twice in one episode. Love story perhaps? She can actually use the Dark Sabre properly too, maybe his teacher?

That's got to be the Mythosaur under the water too, guessing Din ends up taming it. Boba Fett will be pissed he's only got a little Rancor.

That has to be the mythosaur. But who tames it if they even do is up for question. I see Bo Katan as eventually becoming the ruler of the Mandos again. In this type of story Dins character tends to be the unsung hero who just goes about his buisness quietly after all is said and done.... walks off into the sunset sort of thing.

That sounds good, guess by showing Bo Katan as an honourable warrior who risks her life for others it would make more sense for him to stand aside for her. Don't think he wants to be king anyway.

I started the first episode but quickly lost interest. I’ve been underwhelmed by this show since day one, unfortunately, and just don’t feel the need to sit through another season.

Now, Andor on the other hand - give me more of that!

SPOILER ALERT PER THREAD HEADLINE

Okay, WTF was with that segment in the middle with L58? Was the girl the same person from the very, very beginning of the episode? What was the point of it other than to show someone was plotting to wipe the minds of very valuable former Empire scientists?

The actual mandolorian parts, begining and end were just fucking awesome though. Im sure we will find out about the middle parts but, yeah, it threw me off a bit too.

Completely agree. I think this is the first episode in all the seasons that i will not watch again (middle part) perhaps we need understad something, but the story is really slow, it has a really diferent tone

Agreed. Wish there'd been a bit more development about the (alleged) mythosaur, though. And, just curious - what makes the living waters live?

I think episode 2 was my favorite so far. Episode 3 could have been a bit better, I was hoping for more of the mythosaur but instead we got a story about Dr. Penn Pershing's crazy Taungsday.

But I've got to admit that it was good to see a New Republic ruled Coruscant. Also apparently that episode brought some extra legends material into cannon. The ending of Pershing's story was a surprise too, I was almost worried that the imperial remnant weren't going to be in this season that much but it looks like they're still a threat.

Wow.

Episode 4 took episode 2 and used it to kick episode 3's ass. :)  I can always tell when we've got a really great episode when the first thing out of my mouth when it's over are the words, "Too short!"

I couldn't find much to complain about with episode 4. Grogu's first training, the flashback scene, the admission that Mandalorians actually do take their helmets off for something, the rescue, even the new "foundlings." I still wonder what the relevance of the real mythosaur will be. This was a fantastic episode.

Haven't watched episode 4 yet, but am loving this season so far.

I got General Grievous vibes off of this creature, did anybody else? It even makes the same breathing and movement sounds, wondering if this is like a progenitor species that Grievous got the technology from to build his cyborg body.

This is driving me nuts, what was the point of that quick flash that Bo-Katan saw? It helped to restore her will to go on and seemed to encourage her, but I'm hoping it will come into play again.

Episode 4 was great! Even better than episode 2. Grogu's flashback scene was awesome. It was very exciting to see Kelleran Beq, considering who plays him! That was probably the biggest surprise of the season so far.

Yo, that was my take away as well. Ahmed Best saving Grogu and giving his character from the kids gameshow an actual story arc was by far my favorite part of the episode. I also love how they are leaning into the "expanded universe" lore about how the Mandalorians were good with animals and different alien species.

Yep, Ahmed Best got his redemption in the Star Wars universe for sure.

EDIT: Ahmed Best got his JUSTICE in the Star Wars universe
