I 1000% believe it will, dude. My only problem with the existence OF this WAD is, like someone above has said, is that it could become something much more obscure and accidentally fall into the pit of being used as clickbait by kids content creators. It has the elements that these creators desire from horror to appropriate it and desensitize it for kids. Liminal spaces. Blood. Funny easter eggs. Kids play area. Jumpscares. Shifting world. Funny looking monsters. And if these creators begin with MyHouse, they could keep going onto the rest of the classic DooM community.

List goes on. I could be overthinking it, though, and I totally do hope I am overthinking it. Last thing I wanna see of this amazing WAD is for it to be muddled with by kids content creators hoping to make a stack from YouTube.

Can we stop being so cynical about the mere possibility of things being exploited for views? This has already happened to one of the inspirations of the wad, but Everywhere At The End of Time didn't become The Worst Album All Time the moment that some idiot youtubers decided to make a creepypasta about the guy from friday night funkin getting dementia before he could graduate high school. Everybody knows Youtube sucks, so all the more reason to stop wasting time on this and just ignore it.

Not really, more like a trickle of curious new members and only a few of them might stick around as mappers.

No. Most likely, most of the people who came from MyHouse that want to make maps with the same technological prowess as MyHouse with ACS, ZScript and GZDoom UDMF's bells and whistles would likely give up rather quickly due to the fact that these things need a lot of time to get used to and learn. Only verrrry few would either have the determination to learn how to make a UDMF map while utilizing all it's features, or learn more about other map formats and have less of a chance of quitting due to mapper's block.

Yeah, you’re right. I was more-so entertaining the thought than trying to fear monger and I’m sorry if that came across like that.

I was mainly speaking from my experience in unlucky circumstances in communities where a shitty YouTuber made me and many others lose interest in a game, such as Metal Gear Rising or Devil May Cry, because this YouTuber’s fandom made so many elements of those two games uninteresting.

That doesn’t mean I’m right and you’re wrong, no, I’m trying to say I speak from a different perspective is all :)

That sounds like a you problem rather than the youtube or the games, to be honest. You shouldn't let other people's opinions sway your enjoyment of things you like that much. I get that it might not be something you can control easily, but I would probably just steer clear of such content in the future if I were you.

To be realistic one could Just own Doom and Doom 2 and likely never need to buy another game and never run out of something to play for decades.

Lol... so true. This is me. The most recent console I have is the PS2, and I stopped playing videogames around 2005. I occasionally check out new game releases, but I'm too old to get involved.

I pretty much stick with Classic Doom. I'll revisit Super Nintendo, N64, and Sega Genesis games from time to time.

Myhouse.wad was the greatest publicity stunt yet to promote the forums and keep the community alive as always. New people, just when Brutal Doom or the new Doom games came out, will appear. It certainly will make new mappers appear, as there is nothing simpler than making a Doom map of all games, and as long as they learn with time how to make great maps that's fine by me.

I joined doomworld and started mapping after I discovered myhouse.wad a month ago. So based on personal experience, yes 100%.

The only other big event to bring a lot of eyeballs and potential new members the scene was Joel's Mapping Contest from 6 years ago. I admit I fell off after 2017 due to being frustrated with trying to work out how to make my own levels better and being employed steadily.

The use of teleporters gives me an idea for my abandoned maps if I ever go back.

I think it potentially could get zoomers to try the classic DOOM games and maybe a few of those people might check out the modding scene.

If one of the big names that already streamed MyHouse started streaming other wads, I think that would be the push needed to get more people into actually checking out the DOOM community.

It is cool to see the spotlight on DOOM in this way though, and we have Veddge to thank for that.

I expressed before that MyHouse doesn't quite live up to the massive hype for me personally, but that being said I still enjoyed it and think it'll easily be the most important wad of the year.

I don't know, but I do know that my students are now talking to me about Doom which is pretty neat.

Surely Brutal Doom hasn't been dethroned.

God I hope it will be

It's dependent on ZScript, meaning it's only compatible with recent version of GZDoom (to what degree I'm not sure). Not even Zandronum will run it. Plus GZDoom's multiplayer is a bit crap last time I checked. Even if it was playable in multiplayer, it wouldn't be a pleasant experience.

I'm super new to these forums but as a 37yo avid gamer, DOOM (and Wolf3d) were some of my first ever gaming experiences. You know, playing on my friend's dad's PC, us sitting next to each other, debating who gets to walk and who gets to shoot and open doors ... on one keyboard.

At any rate, in my late teens and early adulthood I was super into mapping, mostly for the HL engine (WorldCraft aka Hammer) but DOOM was always close to my heart, so yeah ... if my job lets me find any time, I'm really considering giving it another try.

EDIT: Forgot what I wanted to say about myhouse.wad in general since the main thread is closed.

And it's mostly: "Whoa, holy f***."

This might be the first video game experience in years to really grab my attention and not leave me alone after I finished playing. So far I only got the "sold" ending, but the whole ordeal? has been haunting me. Something about it connects deeply (with so many people here, apparently) and lends a feeling of familiarity and comfort among all of the dread and confusion. The last time I can actively remember being this startled and scared about a game was when I had a love-hate relationship with my older friend's copy of Resident Evil for PSX back in the days. I wanted to play it ... but I also didn't want to. With myhouse, something about falling into the rabbit hole deters me, I guess? IDK. Anyway, absolutely stellar work. Thanks for letting me get this out somewhere lol.

EDIT 2: Here's my first ever playthrough of the game on Twitch for those who want to watch an easily scared European play it.

I've got another myhouse question that I couldn't find the answer to anywhere so far:

Spoiler

If you step out of the doghouse in the brutalist area and spam use a few times, a switch/door sound will ring out. I haven't found out if this changes anything and if so, what it is. Does anyone know?

even if you wanted to, all the funky teleport/portal stuff would prob break the illusion

the only real "solution" is to just make some map for multiplayer based on myhouse or something

Not sure either. I thought i had seen everything including all ending, items, secret areas and easter eggs but that one i only saw in your vid. It's probably a bug but you never know with this wad, lol.

It's a shame that the only way to get some popularity with the mainstream nowadays is to make a "scary liminal space lost media horror mod".

At least I hope that the new members will stick around and make something more traditional instead of copying their first Doom modding experience.

Can't say I'm not excited to play it, however. Sounds interesting and unique in many aspects.

Hello everyone. To anyone that's played this mod recently: have you noticed that the enemies on the Nightmare! difficulty level seem like they act as a weird mish-mash of Ultra-Violence and Hurt Me Plenty enemies in terms of difficulty? There also seems to be less of them. Do you have any idea why this could be? Could it be 'cus Nightmare! was the intended difficulty?

Thanks.

Not to rain on your parade, but I think this has been documented. When you select Nightmare difficulty, did you notice what message is displayed?

Any chance we can give MyHouse.wad threads their own subforum? Not only should this be in WAD discussion, all of these threads just stomp down all the others in the feed.

Spoiler

And same with the individual playtesting threads, they constantly get bumped so it's like having heaps of sticky threads. A very noble type of thread in that case, but there are getting to be a bunch of copycats.

By their own subforum, do you mean one where the threads are all locked up and hidden from public consumption like that warehouse at the end of Raiders?
