My first reaction to seeing a new installment was, "Wait...there's even MORE to this game? How many secrets can one wad hold?" Seeing how the creator pulled off certain tricks in a way that sounds simple even to me, very much a layperson, only makes me appreciate the technical wizardry of My House more.

 

The possibility that the player could've interacted with the payphone in one iteration is an exciting little twist.

Anyone else get framerate drops once you start exploring the house's main floors?  I'm on an i9/RTX 3070 rig and no other wad I've played - even Elementalism Phase 1 - drops this much.  It's still quite playable but it's just curious because I see nothing particularly graphically demanding in those house levels.  I play at 4K at 120 Hz.

Looks can be deceiving. MyHouse is actually quite demanding under the hood - lots of scripts being run in the background plus the various iterations of the house with all the line portals interconnecting them. At 4K and a 120fps target, it's not surprising to see some drops even on a mid-to-high rig.

You know... I wonder how this runs on VKDoom... @Batandy claimed Golden Souls 3 saw a significant performance increase.

I was going through the files in slade last night and saw some sprites I did not see in game play...either they weren't used or.....

 

Yeah it's been like two months since I played myhouse.wad and it's still blows my mind...if I make a map that is like original doom, I'm doing it wrong is the new rule for myself.

I'm sure this has been discovered before but I recently tried looking for any special secrets in the concrete maze section of this map. I was wandering for about an hour when I found a very large room. In the center of the room I found a hole with stairs leading down. I followed the stairs for what seemed like forever. Until I reached the bottom. Directly touching the bottom kills me, and if I try to go back up the staircase I also die. Any help?

I'll be honest, I'm more than just impressed over the sheer amount underlying scripting and mapping tricks that keeps this thing going. The story to follow is without a doubt, one of the best I've seen as of recent. The horror aspect of it is however, a tad bit overblown. It feels, or at least to me, much more deeper than just simple horror as a few people who covered it on YouTube passed it off as.

 

(Spoilers feel unnecessary at this point, but I'll add them regardless.)

I've yet to find something in here that actually contributed to any sort of horror. Now, I'm not saying that it isn't provided properly. To me, I found it much more melancholy instead of horror. The story feels like an internal struggle to accept the passing of someone you held dear, and all the nightmares that follow such emotions. It gives off a constant feel of dread; something just isn't right. And I've to say, that dread that it induces is done to perfection; I seriously wasn't satisfied with myself until I finally got to the actual ending. That sense of dread the character was meant to be suffering from, it felt as it got over me eventually. I wanted answers, too. It went as far to the point that upon knowing I wasn't meant to kill the dogs, I redid the entire .wad over again in order to just get the "perfect" answer that I was looking for. One has to say, the originality the creator has provided here and the mystery he has formed over it is remarkable in every regard.

I do have a few bit of criticisms too, however. Usage of some of the pop culture references felt a tad bit unnecessary. One that a lot of people missed or that I've misinterpreted it as such, was the Rick n' Morty one, with the Pumpkin Rick. It took away a little bit from the emotions. Backrooms too, don't seem as they belong here. It's there as a security measure to prevent the player from exploring the different sections of the map individually, but I'm sure something more original could've been made instead of getting onto the Backrooms. Third one was the Shrek. Alright, this is a little bit of me being nitpicking, but Shrek actually sent me into hysterics the moment I saw him just strolling around in the park. It felt goofy. It felt way too out of place. I see what the intention was of his presence there, but it didn't just work out for me.

 

Otherwise, it's a solid 10/10 experience that, without a doubt I'd recommend to go in blind. You wouldn't regret it if you're looking for a good time.

it's bloody exhausting. it hurts the brain how stupid people are and even Kotaku had the decency to remove their references.

I was gone when this wad got popular. What's going on here? Are people doxing the author or playing detectives in some quest to "dig deep into the lore" or some shit? If so, that's pretty pathetic.

essentially, yes. people are treating the project like an Alternate Reality Game (basically at the behest of all of the youtubers outside of the doom community that have covered this) instead of, idk, a WAD.

it's so weird. I have never seen any other "my house" WAD treated in this manner, which is something I've said before. I'm not saying this project isn't special, obviously it is, but watching people with no understanding about how the community has treated these projects in the past - i.e. with the understanding that people put these things out trusting the community not to be weird and digging too far into the author's personal details - is incredibly strange.

It figures. It really sucks that some people don't understand the concept of respecting other people's boundaries. Just because a guy made a game based on some aspect of his life (from what I gather) doesn't mean that his life is a game. Doing something cool on the internet turns you into a contestant on The Truman Show. When you're stalking people to satisfy your need for More Sweet Lore Theories, you need to unplug the router and get a life. It's not acceptable to stalk people just because they're popular or because they made something popular. And the reasoning always amounts to "well, if they didn't want to be stalked they shouldn't have made themselves popular!". I wish they'd go back to their old hobbies, like shipping Sonic characters or making DeviantArt posts of Jeffrey Dahmer. Or better yet they could fill the vacant hole in their life by using the internet for playing video games and learning to masturbate to something that isn't someone else's life.

I feel like the problem is that you guys are expecting these many outsider youtubers and article writers to know DW's culture, unwritten rules and decades of wad knowledge; to outside people looking in, MyHouse DOES look like an ARG, its full of cryptic nonsense in the pk3 itself, all over the journal, the files in the google drive, even the text file has bloody secrets in it. The fact Veddge went deliberately missing outside of secret exchanges with staff only draws more attention to these mystery seekers. People from outside communities with vastly different interests, and not really all that attached to a 30 year old game and its community's rules, they just jump on modern trends and dive into this new popular thing with Backrooms references and other common meme stuff and go digging. So much of that above video was alien as hell to me, so many bizarre references to modern childish nonsense and popular things, its like it really was from people from a different cultural world. Arlene says 'people are treating the project like an Alternate Reality Game, instead of, idk, a WAD.' and these people don't even know what a '.wad' even really is or what it entails. Its just 'a spooky ARG' in an ancient game 'older than everyone' to a lot of people.
