The map creator reminds me of bitcoin... some unknown creator... this wad map is so damn good. In terms of raw gameplay, reminds me of Donkey Kong (94) on game boy, where you play the classic game (classic home), but there's a much bigger game in front of you.

Re: the letter puzzle in the credits file, it's the J and the K that feel like they're really making it tough to figure it out as an anagram, so maybe it's worth starting from those letters (or figuring out if it's a code or something instead). If the textfile was updated to lowercase the two D's in "3D," then I guess we can assume the letters have been double-checked and are correct. Using the latest file, it looks like the list of letters on the previous page is correct: SELESTNSOAJYIKHYMMU

Pretty sure these changes were made just to make those items easier to collect since before it was easy to walk right past them without even realizing there was an item there at all.  Interestingly, the coin is still in there, even though the phonebooth it was probably connected to is gone.  I also checked the QR code, it's still the same.

Agreed that it's probably not a cryptogram or similar code puzzle, because knowing where the spaces are would be important to solve it. An anagram really seems most likely.

 

The closest I've come to a coherent message so far is "MYHOUSE IS MY LAST JNKE", which would be "JOKE" if the O in Mechadon were capitalized instead of the N next to it. It seems pretty unlikely that a mistake like that wouldn't have been double-checked and fixed, but to be fair, the tone is certainly fitting. Nothing else I've brainstormed is within one letter of making sense.

Nah, I unzipped the pk3 and sorted the files by Date Changed to see what to look at, and then opened up what I could in sublimetext and compared each file with the old version on diffchecker.com. There were other changes I didn't mention (because I didn't understand the significance), and some changes in the myhouse.wad file but it was so big either slade or the diffchecker would crash so I never saw them.

I think the only new file was in the sounds folder, a 1kb wav called DSILENCE or something (not to be confused with the music file called d_silence)

Where was the phone box in the old version?! That sounds interesting... I was poking around with the public phones at the Shell station this evening but there's nothing there of significance.

 

I wonder if there would be any value in comparing just the TEXTMAP lumps from the old and new wads? I'm not sure if there would be anything interpretable in it, but maybe if there's an added/moved/deleted Thing here and there...

 

There's a tool I've been using https://new.wordsmith.org/anagram since anagramming all my teachers' names for my school yearbook in 2002 :) Among other things, it came up with HOUSE SANK, JIMMY-STYLE when I forced it to include the word "HOUSE"... I wonder if that brings it closer or further away from the solution.

One of those phones used to make a sound like you actually activated something, but nothing was apparent. It got patched out. I (a dummy) tried to patch the coin back in to see if the phone would do something different but I think I patched the wrong version. 

 

My work with a multi-word anagram helper came up with "Jimmy Nut's leaky asshole" and "His skeleton jam's yummy." Hot on the trail!

1. Three numbers that are coloured red in order "2, 3, 1" from the dates: November 4, 2022, November 23, 2022 and December 18, 2022
2. The fact that all occurrences of the word "house" are coloured blue except the one time it is used in "myhouse.wad". All instances of "myhouse.pk3" are also coloured blue.

it's the order you're supposed to do them in-game, as opposed to the order he experiences them.  1 is the mirror, which you have to do in order to access the daycare, which is 2, and 3 is the bathtub.  as for the blue houses, presumably myhouse.wad isn't blue because it's the "safe" version, maybe making them blue is hinting at the blue key being the fakeout exit.  I think people also said the coloring is supposed to be part of the House of Leaves homage

Yeah, I had been trying "Tom" and didn't get anywhere with that either. Both "Tom" and "Thomas" are mutually exclusive with some other stuff ("House," "MyHouse," "Miss you") because there's only one O, for what that's worth. I'd be pretty tempted to say this is just a jumble of random letters to mess with us, and I'm sure that's what a lot of people visiting this thread are saying, except that no clue has been a total dead-end before now, and also it would be really weird that he went to the trouble of correcting the case in "3D" unless he actually wanted us to know what the correct letters were.

 

Anagram generators haven't helped, so if it's an anagram, it probably contains something not conventionally recognized as a word -- either a last name, or a Doom-specific term, or something like that. Whatever it is, maybe it's got that goddamned J in it.

This is the main factor that makes me think that this map is by an established person in the community and that Veddge is an alt/old account.

I agree, the fact that they changed the Ds makes it clear it definitely means something. Or they're just cruel. Names that are in the two obits that can be found in the jumble are Julie & Tom (leaving SESNSAYKHYM) or Joel (leaving SESTNSAYIKHYMMU). Probably should be looking at names that begin with S and A to match the hearts though. I've been trying to think of what else it could be but the only other thing I can think of is a cipher that I can't begin to crack.

The map looks really cool, the combat is not the focus here, its just a beautyful tribute to a friend.

I mean, if myhouse.pk3 has any inclination of being accurate, he probably just stumbled upon the secret passage in his home and is now stuck in an alternate brutalist dimension.

Something else that strikes me as I explore the map is that it often does things in ways that are sort of awkward/obsolete - for example, there's a lot of Boom floor transferring and moving sector floor/ceilings around to show and hide things instead of just replacing line textures. It's particularly noticeable with the artifact pictures on the living room wall, which are a multitude of tiny little sectors that have to be managed. True to the timeline, this suggests that the map was made by someone who was familiar with Boom mapping and was gradually exploring more ZDoomy approaches - or someone who is doing a very good impression of one!

 

I imagine that "Veddge" is an old account of someone else in the community that they revived specifically for this, and that they're watching this thread with some amusement... or are even one of the posters in it!

What about the TV static/noise? I've noticed it also appears on the TVs in the mirror world (and in the hospital) once you unplug the TV in the brutalist realm. The text is mirrored (now it reads "CH03" backwards), and its color changed to pink:

Is there any way to kill the dark archviles in the mirror world after the gas station battle?

Mirror Archviles have max pain chance so you can just stunlock them in place with a chainsaw, but they have 50000 HP so it's going to take a while. Assuming you don't alarm them all at the same time you can probably just kill them one by one.

The new version actually severely lowered their pain chance and gave them 5,000,000 health, so I don't recommend this.

Are you playing the right map? The download includes two maps, mywouse.wad which is the unaltered original map, and myhouse.pk3 which is the one worked on by Veddge.
