                                                         *office job is a community project by jimmy 34 this is a Doom2 Limit removing wad*

This community project is my first wad with the Doom community and hope I’ll have fun doing this project for the community and I hope you in joy making map for this community project. 

the rules for maps must have a theme of offices and must look like a office. you must have 500 ammo and 100 items and 15 Secret Airas in your map.

if I may offer a suggestion...

 

maps must be UDMF

 

maps must include an office setting somewhere in the map and that setting must include scripted office tasks that must be completed for business as usual before some event throws the office guy in to doom and makes him in to doom guy?

 

bonus if someone finds some office guy sprites for use as NPCs and maybe some demons in office clothes to serve as the midpoint between office hell and actual hell

ok, well.. from what I know... modern doom has:

 

vanilla (original map format ... usually played with the original exe file or chocolate doom),

 

limit removing (original map format but modern sourceport such as crispydoom),

 

boom (boom map format and MBF? map format and modern boom compatible sourceport such as prboom) and

 

UDMF (UDMF map format and modern zdoom based sourceport such as GZDoom or k8vavoom?)  ...

 

for office type tasks I cant say if that will be possible with anything less advanced than UDMF but then again I am not a boom expert and even vanilla mappers sometimes pulls off tricks that I didnt thought was possible in a vanilla map format

 

between vanilla map format and boom map format there are something called compatibility levels, but I must admit that I do not fully understand them but it seem related to "MBF"

 

with UDMF we find all the most advanced doom sourceports such as GZDoom and the most advanced from what I hear is vavoom ports such as k8vavoom (atleast I think k8vavoom also uses UDMF)

Well, office spaces are definitely possible in vanilla and boom, see Auger Zenith and Going Down for example.

yes, but what about quests? such as office related quests like... pick up some documents, go to the copier and copy them, go to office and stamp them, deliver them to coworker etc... rpg like quests.. ?

 

similar to that trick and tear the living dead puss project where the player had to complete a series of quest to reach the exit while zombies kept coming

 What? What about quests? Yeah, what about them? 

Neither did the OP say anything about quests nor are they are regular staple for an ordinary doom wad.

the OP didnt say much of anything...

Except that he or she liked my suggestion ("Ya that is a good idea I will do that ")... a suggestion that included quests...

Quest are not found in regular doom wads, that is true and so what? does it need to be an ordinary cp?

 

...what I was wondering was if the suggestion I gave, would be possible in anything less advanced than UDMF...

 

HOWEVER... it is of course 100% up to the OP to decide what this CP should be and it could certainly just be "an office setting"...which as others has pointed out...is possible in any map format or doom sourceport

Good idea, but honestly why so much arbitrary rules about secrets, monsters and items? It's known that limitation breeds creativity but I don't see the point here.

Might not be as in-depth as adding quests, but it shouldn't be too hard to replace the keycard sprites to be more office-like. Make something like the Red envelope, Yellow folder, and Blue floppy disk, and you have to deliver them around the office to progress.

That’s is really good idea I will change the keys to red envelope, yellow folder, and blue floppy disk

that would actually be a good way to do it...

 

yes... it should be possible to alter the sprites for keys even in the hud and also alter the text associated with them

cool! that will give mappers some interesting stuff to work with after you put it in to a resource wad

 

not sure how to deliver messages to the player in limit removing but maybe someone has suggestions for that

maybe an office dude texture with transparency as a switch... before being activated he could have an unactivated texture (kinda like a sprite) with a speech bubble saying something like... let me have a look at the yellow folder please ... and then when activated (which can only be done with "yellow key") then he changes to the activated texture with transparency that doesnt have a speech bubble ??

 

same thing could be done for floppy and envelope

 

 

the floppy could also be used with a computer texture that first asks for the floppy on screen and then changes the onscreen message to system online or booted or something after being activated with the floppy (amiga kickstart screen could work for this)

 

also...

 

you can make the skullkeys become the keycards for when the player is fully inside the game or computer or hell or whatever and then just use regular doors and door trim textures from that point on...

 

however... I feel this wad would have to include lawyer sprites of lawyers being in hell in the hellish parts of the maps lol
