Xerenogan Posted March 13, 2023 (edited) I just saw that the new revenant replacement got merged into the Freedoom repo, replacing the Dark Soldier. As much as I like the new Octaminator, I gotta admit, I had a soft spot for the Dark Soldier. Curious to know if anyone had any plans for the ds now that he's been replaced? Blasphemer could probably use him guilt free at this point, eh? Now that I think about it, I kinda have a soft spot for a few of the older sprites that got replaced as well. I love what we have now, and how it keeps getting better and better. Kinda curious to see what replaces the spider mastermind though. Just some thoughts. Looking forward to seeing the Octaminator in-game just as soon as the autobuild is done. Cheers. Edited March 13, 2023 by Xerenogan 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrFlibble Posted March 15, 2023 Excellent news! I've also grown quite fond of the old characters, but the more replacements there are, the more unique the "old" versions of Freed∞m become. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
uhbooh Posted March 15, 2023 The Dark Soldier always looked odd to me, it seems more like an Imp than a Revenant. Octaminator looks really cool and fits the alien theme freedoom has going. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Last time I checked, there was a variant that was being used but is in the process of being replaced. I just meant that if they wanted to, they could. That's because @leileilol originally created this monster as an Imp replacement but it came out too tall by accident and was repurposed as a Revenant placeholder. Later, @wesleyjohnson downscaled the sprites to the current size, and detail was added like the flute launcher. The original Dark Soldier is still found in version 0.7 and has basically Imp attack animations only. I believe this old version is also what is now used as the Undead Soldier replacement in Blasphemer. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
