Slippery platform landings

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that it is very difficult to jump land on a platform because of what I call momentum sliding where you have stopped forward input (keyboard in this case) in Ashes 2063 and yet you're stll moving until you fall off the platform.  I know aficionados probably use other terminology for this phenomenon, but I would appreciate any information someone can share about it.

Are you saying Ashes 2063 makes this especially difficult compared to how it normally is, or is that something you just happen to be playing and are mentioning incidentally?

It's especially difficult in Ashes 2063.  To the point where I am questioning, because of the difficulty, if I am really taking a path to a secret area or if the path is the right one.  Other times I've attributed to some sort of lag on my part, but this is so pronounced that it's definitely something to do with the software.

Doom's momentum and movement is definitely on the slippery end in general so you're not imagining it or anything. What may help is you can briefly hold/tap your backwards movement key and that'll act sort of like breaks which will slow/stop your movement a lot more directly than just letting go of the key.

What has been said is correct, the base Doom movement is pretty slippery.
I just checked out the TC you're talking about and I think that you may find the slippery movement more noticeable because the level design's metrics, the size of objects and planes and hallways and doors, are much closer to "real world" metrics (at least moreso than typical doom level design).
The movement feels the same as Doom's does on GzDoom, however the levels are built to be much more cramped and I think the "slipperiness" simply becomes much more apparent as you find yourself trying to navigate, falling off platforms and jumping over 31-unit gaps between furniture or whathaveyou.

Thank you.  I have tried that, and it works sometimes. Other times, I through myself off the platform in reverse, or I'll quickly tap the forward key if I catch it in time.
