[Complevel 21] Cyberdemon 2 Shot Map

I think this would've benefitted more if the way to two-shot cybers was more varied. Instead of a freely roaming cyber in a box 1000+ times, the map geometry was changed up after some time to restrict your movement, causing you to have to two-shot cybers in increasingly precarious positions. Like in a tight hallway, or the cyberdemon is behind some gate or in a cubby hole it can't walk out from, forcing you to approach it. Maybe even having to two-shot cybs in some awkward height variation like up (or down!) some stairs, or at the end of a bridge that's curved in a way that makes you strafe in only one direction to get the the cyberdemon, or having to avoid crushers or barrels on your way to the cyb. And don't get me started on situations where there's multiple cybs after you with limited ammo!


That ToD map of old already taught me how to simply two-shot a cyberdemon, now this is an endurance test! :D

Heh, mostly what I described, but lacks the repetition usually associated with "training maps". Also wow you don't have room for error at all.

Took me a bit to realize that it's the tom19 MAP11 setup where you can prefire the first BFG shot before opening the door, and then promptly messed it up when I started taking advantage of that.

This would be a lot faster if I could figure out a reliable way to prefire the first BFG shot like in tom19 MAP11. The problem is that sometimes the cyberdemon doesn't get painstunned and retaliates immediately with a rocket right in the face. This is fine in tom19 because there's enough health to take an occasional hit, but not here. In my PB I just stuck to the tried and true method of walking around the cyberdemon to wake him up.

I disagree. Having to restart the map every time you kill 15 cyberdemons is annoying and wastes time that could be spent killing more cybers.

Watching these demos has me shocked how many people haven't disabled the Boom autoswitch and end up switching to pistol after each of the first couple cyberdemons.

really excited to see if anyone will max this map, it'll be a pretty crazy endurance test. I kind of want to try but it sounds frustrating and it would distract from my other goals

Don't think I'll be beating brendondle's PB any time soon, so here's my own PB (161 kills): cybershot161.zip

 

I prefired the BFG for the first two red rows but decided to stop pushing my luck after that (had some close calls along the way). Ironically I died after I stopped trying to prefire. I think it can be done consistently as long as you make sure you're not standing still when the tracers hit, and it's significantly faster than walking around each cyberdemon. The cybers in the blue rows are aligned very unfavorably along the blockmap lines, though, so I don't think it's worth it to try prefiring against them.

 

I saw the other maps added to the WAD. MAP03... why

It was requested by Petya so I granted the request and besides, who doesn't like a good challenge like berserk punching out 1225 cybers. I think it would take like 24 hours or something to pull off a successful run. 

 

If you've got a request of your own, I may be willing to build it so feel free to ask.

nobody will ever tyson map03, mark my words. Idk the highest number of cybers punched out in a demo before (excluding maps where cybers were made to get stuck and then punched out), but I punched out 3 cybers in av23 tyson and forcing yourself to hold concentration to can be difficult, I'd be extremely impressed if someone could punch out 10 cybers in a row without dying honestly.

 

Edit: Breaking news, allegedly NIH has punched out over 60 cybers in GoS's 100 cyber tyson map. Jesus christ.

I added a new map with the mbf21 limits. This is the largest even square with this size of room I can get. 50 x 50 can't be expanded on with this design unless the map size limitations are fixed. If I could use the whole space available then I could do 100x100.
