Insaneprophet Posted March 28, 2023 Ive played the first five maps so far and am having fun with them. As youve stated they arent very difficult and dont take very long to complete. It feels like someones first forray into mapping, learning to build, designing different encounters and puzzles and trying to figure out what works and whats fun. Ive never mapped before, just played millions of them, so my advice can only be taken as one mans opinion. You are on the right track so far, I do feel that your rooms could use more varied detailing in the texture work as things like the library level almost become boring to look at after awhile. And along those lines, there are alot of missing textures, some in almost every level. It appears to show up mostly on different raising/lowering sectors, stairs that rise up or lifts that activate, that sort of thing. Almost like everything looks fine until the terrain changes then you need to go over everything again and make sure it still looks correct. I do feel like you are getting a handle on varying fights and how rooms play out, just as your mapping progresses you will be able to string more concepts together into longer levels that will feel more satisfying. Its almost like I could see all of these lvls being merged into one by a more experienced mapper but I can appreciate the steps you are taking to explore each of these ideas individually as a part of your learning. So again, I am having a good time playing around with these and thanks for making them. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

JohnR60 Posted May 7, 2023 Hello everyone, I finally had some time to play this Wad. I must say Woody that it was quite fun to see how your first maps were, the ideas were tested, some battles and etc. but in the end I see that there is a good balance in general to the gameplay. The level that I liked the most of this was The Lions Club and The Crusher, I think they are the 2 best levels of this episode in my opinion. Here I leave a video that I made playing this Wad, I finished it from the 1st level to the 8th. Waiting for Episode 2 in the future, anything to test I'm available as always!. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
MeriMemesX Posted February 29, 2024 Well, I want to see how this pack is... Nukage Time: I am not a fan of the large masses of enemies in my opinion they create an artificial difficulty, however it is quite good due to the fact that you do not necessarily need to leave the first area to kill everyone 3/5 Stairing Contest: I really liked the map, the stairs and the position of the enemies, I love it 5/5 The Winding Library: I really liked the concept and the overall level, especially the areas where it let us use the chainsaw in peace 5/5 Emily 2nd Aventure: honestly, the yellow area is my least favorite because yes or no you take damage from the enemies there, god 3/5 Circles of Death: very good concept, I liked the entire map and the final boss is a good challenge 5/5 The crusher: it's fun in its own way, I quite like its simplicity 5/5 The Lions Club: We were going so well... unfortunately this level is not just completely abandoning the corridors and arenas for an open sky where everything is chaos, it is a madness of enemies, you cannot kill an enemy without the others 3 of the spikes and the Skeletons of the structures will riddle you 1/5 Room of Death: I think this was a simpler combat than the creator expected simply because I made the enemies fight each other 4/5 It is not a bad Map-Pack at all, the ideas shine for their simplicity, I only wish that The Lions Club had not existed 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DreadWanderer Posted April 7, 2024 I gave this a spin today. For your first wad I think it's pretty OK, simplicity and straightforwardness were to be expected. The environments aren't really that compelling but could work very well with some more abstract or surreal aesthetics. I think you did much better in trying to structure combat, and a few things surprised me like that cyber drop in 'Circles of Death', that map in particular is a nice nod to Romero. There are a number of visual and design problems like very obvious HOMs and invisible lines that block the player in the middle of the map, and I have some major reservations towards the last stretch, where functionality is really quite severely affected. 'The Lions Club' is probably the main culprit here, as soon as I saw that absolutely huge and empty space I couldn't bring myself to play it until the end, it felt like 'The Factory' all over again. I also dropped into a water pool and got softlocked because I couldn't take the lift up (was hit with a HOM which is most likely a sector issue). 'Circles of Death' is probably the highlight, it flows the nicest out of all the levels. I know this is just Episode 1 so I'm expecting improvements as I begin tackling the rest. Not too bad! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ElPadrecitoCholo Posted April 12, 2024 @Woody101 Well, here is my opinion regarding what I have seen in the entire episode. Each map has several good things but it also has very bad things. You could say that starting with Pistol Start is the first thing I didn't like about this Wad, because I'm not used to playing this way. The other thing to mention is that many maps don't have enough ammunition or medikits to be able to have a balanced combat. I'm not one to entertain myself with anything they leave me there, especially if there isn't much ammunition to start with. The maps seem poorly optimized in some cases, not all, but the poor work in this section is noticeable, as well as being able to see lacks of textures in various parts of the places. Many dangerous floors do not work from Map 02 onwards, and if these worked well, it would be even more torturous to be able to play in those areas due to the constant unfair danger that is presented with that low optimization for playing. Maybe the only one that is saved is map 01 and map 04, but the others must be fixed, as in the case of the circle of death map, I didn't know how to lower the Rocket Launcher and even less pick up a Cell box because it was in high areas They didn't allow me any access to that entrance where the Hell Knight was, and in the last map, I felt a certain inconsistency leaving so much ammunition for various weapons to finally use the BFG, by the way, how is it that only 1 MegaSphere and then Medikits?, that's wrong, you could have put 2 Soulspheres and 2 Mega Armors to make the combat better in case a rocket could hit the Marine, which lowers a lot of health as well as the attack of the SpiderMaster Mind. There is a lot to improve in this Wad, because it really wasn't very enjoyable going through these things, several fights became a problem for me because of this, but I won't deny that this Wad entertained me, however, entertaining and enjoying are two different words. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
