I'm very glad to have gotten the chance to do this with ya @BeetBeardTheBrave! Much thanks for making me the co-host!

Definitely check this channel out, but that name, VPO, that name sends shivers down my spine every I do a map. I've had two constant VPO's in my most recent map, even though the map isn't that detailed.

Maybe something inspired by Medieval Japan, because I haven't seen that theme much if it all in Doom (I've been playing Ghost of Tsushima again recently as well lol).

Legends say that the only way to remove this curse is to create maps that can only be played in... LIMIT-REMOVING SOURCE PORTS! MWUAHAHA!!!
(Jk there's probably some strategy I don't know about to not get Visplane-Overflow)

I can’t promise anything but I will keep this idea in mind when doodling in the editor…

I can create a color palette. But resources I don’t know. I found some Minecraft texture packs though lol.

OTEX and Makkon are fantastic.

 

OTEX is easy to find, but here's a link to a download for a DOOM-compatible Makkon in .pk3 (it was easier to find the direct download link in my browser history than trying to find the thread it came from, so sorry I can't credit the author!):

If you insist, I made a .pk3 for the Minecraft LB Photorealistic pack a while ago.  Never wanted to distribute it because I wasn't sure of the permissions (even though I believe it is CC) and because OTEX and Makkon are far superior, but here's a link:

If ya want, I threw together a motley assortment of sprites and a lil' Dehacked if you want a foundation to build off (If you choose to do this for us).
VERY rough and needs cleaning up, but I thought this could be cool.

Fair enough lol. We'll probably be slightly more established as "The Game Grumps of Doom" (hopefully) by the time you decide to do this.

I’m a very slow mapper. And your taste for exploration rules out the short-and-punchy kind of maps. Either way, there will be a medieval japanese map at some point this year. Gonna watch your streams to develop the feel…  😏

Splendid! We don’t mind shorter maps though (BTSX ‘s middle is good example of maps taking too long)!
We’re actually starting a recording of the first few levels of Epic 2 tonight, so be on the lookout for your “research” ;).

Short and punchy is good too!  We are planning on playing some punchier stuff very soon.  Stay tuned. ;)

Hi, I'm back at the PC and had a look on your file. It has some nice monsters and stuff. I also googled around a bit but could not find a nice texture pack easily. @innerethos posted about Makkon, yet a .pk3 file seems only about ZDoom ports (not my port of choice) and Quake actually. Long story short, assembling a small resource pack is not something I'm particular familiar with. Seems that a bit more research is needed...

Thanks for liking it! I wanted to reference actual Japanese Monsters/Yokai and Weaponry.
I'd probably change somethings up if I made it less-slap-a-dashy (Such as the Imps have red instead of green blood and giving them yellow eyes, giving the Pinky a less awkward walk style, changing the Barons up to make them different from the Imps, giving the Revenant a much better sprite, making the BFG grey/green over red, the Hud being brown and white, making the staff a spear, changing the Rocket Launcher projectiles)

In terms of texturing, here's some things I found.

The skybox here is from this thread. It's very Mountainous/Japanese looking.

There's also a thread for Makkon. It says it can convert to Vanilla if you need. If you have Slade you just take the textures out of the pk3 file and put them in a wad file.


If you need, you could probably use OTEX or stuff from Shadow Warrior or even the DoomerBoards Projects. Hope this helps!

I also found a better crossbow sprite from Dox778's BrutalCrossbow.

Finishing off Scythe 2 (For now, anyway...)! A bit longer then our usual episodes, we get a bit philosophical and the like, but I hope it's still a good time!

Bringin' you all two new episodes! This on is a little different, we aren't doing a Doom! Don't worrying, we're not quitting it, these other games will be our "B-Plot" if you will.
Anyways, enjoy this slick Mario World ROM, and good ol' Super Metroid (Along with Samus saying funny things)!
