Jimmy Posted April 1, 2023 (edited) Sorry, guys, gals, neithers, boths and in-betweens. It's been a great 15 years that I've been in this community but I'm officially stepping down as a Doom mapper! I recently picked up TrenchBroom again and I simply cannot hide it any longer: the undistilled ease with which I've been able to put together extremely satisfying custom Quake maps has far, far exceeded the joy that Doom has brought me even over the last decade-and-a-half. I have moved on, nay, transcended to a new medium, and have now seen the light - 3D is better than 2.5D, in every way conceivable. Henceforth, my myriad in-progress Doom projects have been put on permanent hold - this includes "Realms of Zoon", "A Boy and His Barrel", "Earthless: Reprelude", "Faithless" episode 4 (working title "Unfaithless"), "Jenesis: Rejeneration", "Earthless 2", my in-progress jokemegawad "Jimmy and Bimmy's Excellent Adventure", my Christmas-themed homage to Winter's Fury "Merry Shitmas 2: Santa's Fury", "Jenesisless", and "Community Chest 5" - which TheGreenHerring entrusted to me a few years back. Or maybe he didn't. I can't quite remember. Regardless, sorry to shatter your hopes! I sincerely hope you enjoy my final hurrah, which is a Quake map that I had the inimitable MarkieMusic assist with live onstream in mid-2021. I picked it up again and polished it off for release. It may not be much, as there's fewer than 100 enemies and it serves as little more than an introduction to my forthcoming Quake era, but I sincerely hope you enjoy. You'll see my future posts on Slipseer in the coming months as I release more content for my soon-to-be-announced Quake set, entitled "Doomless". This is Jimmy signing off! So long, Doomworld. Download "Outpost 91": Dropbox Mirror To play "Outpost 91": You'll need QuakeSpasm. Download outpost91.zip, and unzip it to the /id1/maps folder in your Quake installation directory. Boot up QSS, and in the console type "map outpost91". Name: Outpost 91 Game: Quake Ports Tested: QuakeSpasm Map: OUTPOST91 Music: None Gameplay: Single play Difficulty Settings: No Multiplayer Placement: No Build Time: A week or two, spread over 1.5 years. Quake mapping is so fast! Textures: id1. Requirements: Jumping, freelook, and swimming. Known Bugs: The rottfish don't count towards the kills %. Not sure how to address this. Oh well too late now. ChaoticReverie Posted April 1, 2023 I admit you had me for a moment, then thought that there was no way this could possibly be happening; Jimmy would never do this. Then it hit me that it was April. I suppose it's better than the tired old McDoomworld 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biz! Posted April 1, 2023 same energy as "I'm quitting youtube" except much more scary and less annoying lol 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Individualised Posted April 1, 2023 This post has caused a deep inspiration within me. I think I'm about to cry, now that I have seen the light of 3D - no, scratch that, 4D gaming. I'm officially announcing that I'm the new owner of Doomworld, and from now on this community shall be referred to Quakeworld (not to be confused with id Software's Quakeworld.) 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Breezeep Posted April 1, 2023 Forgot that today was April Fool's but whatever. Very solid first Q1 release. There isn't really anything here for me to complain about, though I personally felt that some areas were a bit too bright. Both the layout and gameplay are pretty good though. Nice work. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post
exl Posted April 1, 2023 (edited) Dear Doom Community, It is with a heavy heart that we must say goodbye to one of our most talented and dedicated members, Jimmy. They have decided to move on from our community and start a new adventure in Quake map-making, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, inspiration, and innovation that will always be remembered. Jimmy has been a key figure in our community for years, and their contributions have been invaluable. Whether it was creating custom MIDI music, crafting intricate Doom maps, designing unique textures, running community projects, or streaming Doom gameplay, they have always been at the forefront of our community, pushing the boundaries and inspiring others to do the same. Their custom music is particularly noteworthy. Few in the Doom community can rival Jimmy's talent for creating MIDI tracks that perfectly capture the mood and atmosphere of the levels they accompany. From eerie ambient pieces to frenzied battle themes, Jimmy's music has added a layer of depth and immersion to countless Doom maps over the years. Jimmy's skills in map-making are also second to none. Their levels are well-designed, challenging, and always fun to play, with intricate layouts, clever puzzles, and engaging combat scenarios that keep players on their toes. Their attention to detail is evident in every aspect of their maps, from the carefully crafted textures to the meticulously placed props and decorations. But Jimmy was not just a talented artist and designer. They were also a tireless community member who dedicated countless hours to organizing and running community projects, collaborating with other members, and helping newcomers get started with their own map-making and music projects. Their enthusiasm and passion for Doom were contagious, and they inspired others to strive for excellence and never stop learning. Lastly, Jimmy was an active streamer of Doom gameplay, sharing their love of the game with others and providing valuable insights and commentary along the way. They were always happy to engage with their viewers, answering questions, offering tips, and sharing their own experiences and knowledge. We will miss Jimmy dearly, but we are excited to see what they will accomplish in the Quake community. We have no doubt that their skills and talents will continue to shine, and we look forward to following their journey and celebrating their successes from afar. Jimmy, we want to express our deepest gratitude for all that you have done for our community. Your contributions have been immeasurable, and your presence will be sorely missed. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors and hope that you will continue to inspire and create wherever your journey takes you. Farewell, Jimmy. You will always be a valued member of the Doom community, and your legacy will live on for years to come. Sincerely, Exl Edited April 1, 2023 by exl More content 31 Quote Share this post Link to post

Berubaretto Posted April 1, 2023 (edited) Actually, this map is pretty decent. I even started to expect you making more Quake maps. Quote You'll see my future posts on Slipseer in the coming months as I release more content for my soon-to-be-announced Quake set, entitled "Doomless". Is this just another April Fool's day joke? Or you really have plans about releasing mapset for Quake? I'm really curious about that. Edited April 1, 2023 by Berubaretto 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
