[/idgames] I Hate Slaughter :: ¡3 NEW MAPS ADDED! :: HIGH Intensity Slaughter Goodness [complevel 21]

Recommended Posts

These maps are great, I love this type of slaughter where you really need to fight for space and you can't just camp in one place and win.
Can't wait to see more!

I hate slaughter too.  Here's fdas for first 7 maps.  Nom nom fun maps so far.  There's a sun-glare on my monitor tho and can't see the screen so I'll stop here for now and use that for copium for the fact that I can't beat Map07.

These were really fun to watch btw haha

This is so much fun! And the maps are super pretty, amazing job! I played the first three levels, map03 was no joke :P I assume things only get more difficult from here? :)

If useful, I'll continue recording the rest of the maps.

Spoiler

oo I'll be sure to check these out!! I love when people record playthroughs so feel free (compelled, even) to keep going! Thank you for the kind words, but I'm mostly relying on the beauty of otex 🙏

Before I give my thoughts, can I ask for your genuine thoughts on slaughtermaps Andrea Rovenski? Not trolling, I can't work out from your post whether it's a genuine dislike, or a "mock" dislike, or any other kind of opinion. Please can you clarify? It'll help me frame my comments in the right context.

hey everyone, rc1 is ready to play. This will be the last update unless there's some critical failures that someone finds.

INTERPICtest1.png.d74ff5164962ddfa8ba98f595f7ad5cf.png

In RC1, we have 3 new maps:

XI: SUPANOVA

XII: Something About Wood And Fire

XIII: The Thirteenth Grave

these maps are much more difficult than the ones in the test version, and frankly, I haven't beaten 12 and 13 myself yet without saving, so I'm hoping to try my best and ensure they're actually beatable. :^)

The download for rc1 can be found in the OP. Thank you all for the kind comments, even if we hate it ;)

edit: it appears I found a critical error. rc2 is now posted :)

You shouldn't get the all-ghosts bug in complevel 21, which is what this WAD is made for.

Agghhh, thanks for the heads-up! I forgot to add the param c:

How many maps are going to be in the final version?

this is the final version now, so 13 :)

I will also be posting a demo pack, uv max of each map onto youtube and DSDA to prove that each map can be beaten without saves. Here's map01:

Nice maps, fun to play, although a few areas overstayed their welcome (especially the red key arena in map 13).

You said you liked demos, so I recorded some (on RC3). They're not true FDAs, since I first played through the whole set with saves, but thankfully my memory is bad so I got surprised again by the same traps anyway. A few of them are split into parts since I took a break in between attempts. I beat maps 1-8, the others are unfinished attempts, with 9 and 11 being close to the end, and 10, 12, and 13 nowhere near.

Some per-map comments:

Spoiler

MAP03: There's a poor arachnotron stuck in the wall.

MAP04: Major difficulty spike. I beat 1-3 on the first attempt but got stuck on this one for a while.

MAP05: This one was kind of frustrating. It's pretty tedious to clear out the area, and most of my deaths were just me losing focus and catching a few too many fireballs. There's also a softlock: if you go along the top edge (past the cyberdemon), there's a pit with some revenants, behind a wall that lowers later. You can kill some of the enemies beforehand, but if you drop into the pit you can't get out. This happened to me on my first playthrough because I missed the progression switch and didn't know where I was supposed to go.

MAP06: I found out by accident that you can abuse the secret area at the start to move all the enemies to one side from perfect safety.

MAP07: Is it intentional that there's two separate monster closet triggers at the BFG? One at the first step, and one on the BFG itself. Doing one at a time makes it way easier.

MAP08: There's an imp stuck in the wall (shown in the demo). It took me a number of attempts to get past the start, but the rest of the map was fairly easy in comparison because you have oceans of space. Also, at the end, I took too long to find the megasphere I'd noticed earlier, and the cyberdemons arriveed to block the way out. It wasn't a huge problem, it just made them very awkward to fight.

MAP09: Every attempt ended with me falling off somewhere, so I just gave up. Not a fan of the chaingunner roulette. You're clearing waves of teleporting imps, turn around for a second, and suddenly you're getting blasted by two chaingunners. I tried to see if you can break the map by playing pacifist, and the answer is... kind of, but only the first two areas.

MAP10: I was never going to beat this one, but I gave ita try anyway. In my run with saves I somehow got the BFG before reaching the ones visible behind the fence at the start, and I have no idea how or where. I just noticed I had it at some point.

MAP11: This map is very beatable, but the start is five minutes of holding mouse1 with the chaingun and it gets old quickly. On the path to the yellow key it seems like it's possible to wake up pain elementals on the outside, probably with stray rocket explosions. They like to get stuck and take forever to fly up to where you can kill them.

MAP12: Yeah, didn't think I'd get far on this one. I don't know what's going on with the wall with the fire textures (where I died), but it snags you when trying to strafe against it, and it's pretty annoying.

MAP13: I overlooked the blue key several times because I mistook it for one of the many supercharges.

Thank you very much for the demos and the comments! I'm glad you pointed out the fire wall on map12, I made it the worst thing in the world on purpose :)))

regarding map06/07: yes, very intentional. I don't mind if people cheese the maps, they're more designed for speedrunning and maxing so I consider that to be the true challenge of the wad. But yes, most fights are cheesable if you want to ;D

regarding map11, you can get to the SSG in about a minute if you weaponize infighting, which is the true lesson to learn for that map :D

regarding stuck monsters: I love them and use them often for fun, glad you noticed!

I'll watch the demos over the next few days, so thanks! I'll be posting the wad (rc3) to idgames soon, with the inclusion of my demo pack to show the strategies for each map. The only update with the idgames version will be the inclusion of partimes, so no more map changes. For anyone who wants it, I have a youtube playlist being updated as I post the max runs https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiOYrzyjykCROWsGckizHWf2fKUcHjMOo

I couldn't resist, so here's a second set of demos if you're interested:

h8slaught_demos2_scf.zip

MAP11 beaten. Got significantly further on MAP12/MAP13, past the point where restarting from the beginning every time instead of actually practicing is a good idea. And then there's also a selection of failures from MAP09 in case you like seeing people falling off ledges repeatedly. That should be all from me.

Looking forward to seeing the videos of the later maps.

There's no difficulties, it's meant to be hard, and I made it purposefully to challenge me, so don't feel bad if you can't beat it :)

Challenge Accepted...

Spoiler

In all seriousness, as an average slaughtermap enjoyer I will absolutely give all the maps a try!

I have watched some of the playthroughs of the first couple maps and I like it in terms of the whole premise. From what I can see, it's straight to the point in terms of action!

First, I had allot of fun with the first two maps. The video is my best segments for those.

Second, that difficulty spike on three, I've almost got it but wanted to get this posted as I am having a fun time with your maps. Not the intended way to play I know I just have more fun with free look on. Keep up the great work!
