Breezy Posted April 23, 2023 Love or hate Habitat, you can’t lie that water on the ceiling is an objectively good thing. 10 Quote Share this post Link to post
Blzut3 Posted April 23, 2023 I'm fairly certain the intention there was that the brown water texture is supposed to represent the reflection of light from the floor water onto the brown rock. It was also done in MAP26 I suspect for the same reason. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

I don't remember what it was called (ashwall?), but that brown texture always looked like dirt to me, and i use it as such in my maps. In my opinion, it is very unfitting, as a material for interior walls and buildings. Out of all the availabe brick textures, i will never know why they chose to use that texture for the sewer section.. The green mossy brick flat would have been 10 times better. Maybe it's one of the unfinished parts of the map, and the dirt was just a temporary choice? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'm calling it first! 😂 Dario mentioned in his interview with Nirvana a while back that he was about to be pulled into a big project at work, so given subsequent revelations he's probably too busy getting Counter-Strike 2 out the door by day to consider touching another map editor by night. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Kinsie Posted April 23, 2023 Beats me. Would show how much I pay attention to things and make assumptions, though. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

I think I might legit start putting more liquid on the ceiling in my own maps now (even when I'm not going for a dream-like, nonsensical vibe) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Half-Life Episode 3? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Still, he had an almost 25 year old run with Valve, which is impressive nonetheless. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Guff dotD Posted April 25, 2023 Funny thing is, Civvie isn't even playing in Complevel 4, because he's using GZDoom (which doesn't have complevels in the same way that PrBoom+ and DSDA-Doom have). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
BouncyTEM Posted April 25, 2023 huh, kinda figured he'd compress two into this one... wonder which map he's not going to talk much about? 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Stupid Bunny Posted April 25, 2023 Yeah I think pretty much everybody did. Even more curious that he actually seemed to sort of like Quarry, given that it tends to rank near TNT's bottom for most people. I can most likely see it going two ways from here He gives Baron's Den and Ballistyx the same video, because Baron's Den is so fucking dull that I don't think anybody could say much about it in spite of its size Civvie is going to be a mega troll and just never review the final map, leaving TNT unfinished forever 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

I like to call what he's been afflicted by as "TNT Sickness", it's a condition that arises when you get to Baron's Den during a full playthrough of TNT. It makes you go mad, as seen here 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
D4NUK1 Posted April 26, 2023 It's shows how many of civvie viewers don't watch clickbait Tiktok's videos. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kwisior Posted April 26, 2023 Baron's Den really isn't that bad, it's mediocre at best. It's quite easy to navigate and takes only about 15 minutes to beat. Its visuals also aren't tragic, the fire ledge area looks quite cool imo. As for gameplay - it's just the typical classic approach, I can see how people could find it boring, but it's fine to me. P.S. The video is cringe. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
hybridial Posted April 26, 2023 (edited) Okay I missed his Deepest Reaches video, but he gave it a pass. That's good, I think it absolutely deserves one, given it's definitely one of the most successful TNT levels at doing what it set out to do. I'm totally glad it basically got a tribute map in TNT Revilution because it's generally good enough to hold it's own there. Mount Pain is left, and well, MtPain27 is well known for his love of the map, after watching his take I took a go at it pistol start and I became a convert. But I've also seen people (Big Mac Davis I think) call it legitimately one of the worst maps of the set. Now, I mean I get not liking it... I tend to ditch entire megawads for technical or aesthetic reasons that are purely my preference... but the bar is too low in some of TNT Evilution to associate Mount Pain with being the worst or near it in any way, shape or form. Zulk RS Posted April 26, 2023 Mt.Pain can be Brutal in Pistol Start but I also find it fun Continuous, which is how I like to play. There are a few sections of it that I don't quite like but I don't dislike them either. Also about Baron's Den, I think the reason for hating it is because it is really boring for how late in the game it shows up. Had it been one of the earlier hell levels or in the mid-section, it wouldn't be that bad but when you're playing TNT and you get to it, by that point your fatigued enough with the wad that that map will put you to sleep. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I too see why it’s so widely maligned, as with all of the Drake maps that I’m fond of. Guess he can’t possibly hate it more than Administration Center 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
