Whacked not finding iwad?

Everytime i try and put doom2.wad , this shows up. i dont have any files with the extension iwad. im a little confused... this is my first time using whacked. Is it even necessary to edit sprites and make custom decorations? following doom kids tutorial.

That's odd. You don't need the file to be named "*.iwad" to open it in WhackED. That seems to me like your wad's header got messed up somehow, if I had to wager a guess. Does this happen when you load any other IWAD file in, such as doom.wad?

 

As for whether it's necessary... it ISN'T, by all means of technicality, but you'd have a harder time seeing exactly WHAT changes you're making in WhackED, so it's always nicer to have the sprites loaded in alongside whatever work you're doing.

The only one ive been able to load in is Freedoom2.wad. everytinhg else seems to bring up the same popup.

Try a clean reinstall + doom2.wad.
