zouzou Posted April 17, 2023 (edited) Hello, So for a while now I have been wanting to create a Doom map. I've been wanting to do this since I first played Doom on the PlayStation 2 many years ago. Having spent time trying to learn UDB. I am now slightly confident enough to make the map public for people to try out. I've not fully optimised the map for things such as co-op or difficulty. Play on Ultra Violence - The gameplay difficulty is sort of TNT-esque at the start with plenty of ways for zombiemen and chaingunners to snipe you. It becomes challenging after leaving the first sector, and then turns into a Doom II style with the variety of demons. Good luck! I've replayed it many times now and tried to balance things out the best I can. Let me know if more medpacks are needed, or armor etc. Perhaps it will be a walk in the park for some of you. What port and format? GZDoom and Doom2 How many maps? Just one You can play using Free Look but it would be best not to. No jumping or crouching. Play using Doom II IWAD. The theme of this map is a Hellish outpost that was controlled by the UAC and has lost control by being overrun by demons. If there is any issues with playing the map then please let me know. John Rain Posted April 17, 2023 First of all, this one is really good looking, especially for a first map, a lot of doom cute, arcade machines, sofas, traffic cons, very cool. I like aesthetics of a city overrun with demonic influence, with blood and meat coming through walls, kinda reminds me of Don't turn you back on the city. From the gameplay perspective my feelings are mixed though, I played the map several times, and now the first thing I do is rushing for the SSG and back, it makes this map feel waaaaay better in my opinion, all this imp hordes just cry for supershotgun, shooting all of them(and couple of hellknights and mancubi) with regular shotgun is a little bit tedious. Secrets are also a mixed bag, Spoiler I found 7/9, really liked how all of them were marked with misaligned textures, candles, or secret swithes, classic, but rewards were weird. Two invisibilites don't feel that usefull, sure map has a lot of hitscanners, but it also has a lot of imps, so having invisibility can actually make your life worse. The most dissapointing one is medpack behind the bookshelf, the secret itself feels kinda immersive, but revard is meh, something more usefull might feel better, like a soulsphere or actually an SSG, so the player who knows the map already wouldn't have to rush forward to get one. One of the secret seems to have a lone energy cell and I mean...Thanks I guess, whatever. On the other hand some secrets are too good, like two secrets near the end of the map both have invulnerabilites, and it feels like an overkill, I mean you can grab fisrt one and rush forward to kill the archvile, the most dangerous enemy in the map, so it is somewhat useful, but he isn't too bad without it, and second invul feels completely unnecessary, ending isn't that hard, couple of barons, caco, whatever, I mean yeah I rushed them with this invul and rocket launcher just to flex, but again it's totally an overkill, you can honestly put a bfg here just for shit and giggles with the same effect. Other weird thing is bloodpools, map has a lot of them, but only two of them are damaging. One is in inescapable pit, so it makes sence(though I would say a trap like this feels unnecessary on a mostly breethy map like this, but whatever). Other one is at the begining of the map, near the backpack and this one doesn't make any sence, I think it either shouldn't be damaging at all or it should be lava or slime just for consistency sake. Also, there are some weapons on pedestals, and one of them is chaingun, but by the moment player gets there he is going to have one already from one of the chaingunners. Not really a bid deal, just a little bit weird. Actually, all of the stuff I wrote above is not a big deal really, minor nitpicks, I just like to be thorough, you know. Overall this map is really good. Like it is really good in general, and as your first map it's actually awesome, loved it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
