cowgod Posted April 17, 2023 Hello, I was going through old Doom files I downloaded decades ago and came across a file called lights.wad. I put it in a folder titled "zdoomgl_light_definitions". The wad is dated 2005-08-30 and it's 68 kb in size. I tried to run ZDoomGL so I could try to understand what this wad does, but I get an error when trying to launch that it can't change my resolution (I'm on Windows 10). I also tried to load the wad into GZDoom. It does appear to load the wad fine, but I don't see it actually doing anything. Does anyone know what this wad actually does and how to use it? I searched the internet for an hour or two and came up with nothing except the GLDEFS project, but I don't think that's what this is. I attached the file to this post. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. lights.wad.zip 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Asbadagba Posted April 17, 2023 it's just gl light definitions for doom/heretic/hexen and the other iwads in newer versions, this one only has those 3 since thats what gzdoom (or zdoomgl in this case) supported. it can still be found in the current gzdoom build, but you need to set "autoloadlights 1" in the console or config file for gzdoom to autoload it as well as setting "gl_lights 1" (this one can also be found in the options), it will work if you manually load it too. i'd imagine the light definitions themselves haven't changed much since 2005. not sure what's going on with the error on zdoomgl, this file has nothing to do with resolutions. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
cowgod Posted April 18, 2023 (edited) Ah, thank you, now I see the difference! It adds a nice glow around lights and pickups. You said light definitions haven't changed much since 2005, but is there anything newer? Anything with colored lighting? I couldn't find much when searching for "doom light definitions". EDIT: I found this one which looks pretty nice, but doesn't run very smoothly on my system. If anyone knows of any others, please let me know! https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=72206 Edited April 18, 2023 by cowgod 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
