What are you listening to?

Recommended Posts

I'm probably a broken record at this point, but I'm listening to Real Gone by Tom waits again. I just really love this album. But instead of posting the playlist of the album, I'll just post a live recording from his Real Gone tour. Some of the songs are from earlier albums. Hearing "Jockey Full of Bourbon" was really neat.

I still can't believe it's been almost 20 years since this album came out, I remember it like it was yesterday.

This was awesome. I love watching him preform live, it reminds me allot of David Byrne. They both get lost in the music and start grooving and dancing, good stuff.

Goddamm, I love that album. It reminds me of driving across the state when I was going to college in the mid 00's. The title of the album really hits home when you're at two hours into a six hour trip and all you have to look at is pastures and pig farms.

And yeah, watching Tom perform live is something else. He really doesn't care about how he looks, he just does his own thing, he just wants to put on a show, and it's beautiful. I'm kind of sad that I'll probably never get to see him live, but at least there's some bootlegs of him. And the stuff he did on Letterman. I still love his performance of Chocolate Jesus.

"It's a candy item, it's actually kind of an immaculate confection." It just cracks me up every time.

And I'll just edit this, the damn Cock Walk he does at 3 minutes is amazing. Throws glitter up, and starts strutting like a rooster. That's a performer, he would've done well as a carnival barker in the mid 1800's.

Is it a black metal album? I don’t see the three pandas messing with a sword, an axe and a hammer.

Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables by Dead Kennedys

Favorite Tracks :

  • Kill the Poor
  • California Über Alles
  • Stealing Peoples Mail
  • Holiday in Cambodia
  • Viva Las Vegas

Edit: Listen to what you want, but thought I would just add that the current form of Dead kennedy's is garbage. Biafra hasn't had anything to do with them in years.

Yeah I kind of have to give you kudos for this. Fresh Fruit is an essential punk album. Personally my favorite Dead Kennedys album is Frankenchrist, but I like the longer Dead Kennedy songs, and that's probably why I fell in love with Nomeansno the first time I heard them, but Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables is absolutely one of the best punk albums ever made. And one of the best albums ever made period.

And yeah, they died years ago, with "Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death" in 1987. The last time I really paid attention to what was going on with them was back in 2001 when "they" reformed with Brandon Cruz doing the vocals, but without Biafra singing it's not the Dead Kennedys. It reminds me of Jerry Only trying to keep the Misfits going without Danzig. And I will say that "American Psycho", and "Famous Monsters" to a lesser extent are really damn good albums, and Michael Graves was a really good singer, but it wasn't the Misfits without Danzig.

And now I'm going to listen to "American Psycho". And apparently you can't actually find the album on Youtube or anywhere else because Jerry Only is probably being a pissy litigious jerk about it.

Edit: I got done listening to American Psycho, but I felt like listening to some Funky Punk, and "Apocalicious" by Victims Family fits the bill:

This is always going to be one of my favorite albums. I would describe it as "frenetic".
