DOOM 64 FOR GZDOOM , LZDOOM ?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering , Is there a Doom 64 Wad for GZDOOM , LZDOOM that is just like the original ?

no fan made recreation like Retribution , or Absolution because I've tried those there not my favorite ?

I would much rather have a version of the game that behaves exactly like the original

and has all the same map layouts .

If anyone knows of such a thing that may exist please let me know

and as always thanks :)

Try Doom CE without any of the optional add-ons and using the "faithful" options preset.

Ok thanks man :)

But where do I download it ?

From ModDB: https://www.moddb.com/mods/doom-ce

The current latest version of Doom 64 CE (there's also PSX Doom/PSX Final Doom versions): https://www.moddb.com/mods/doom-ce/downloads/doom-64-ce-370-full-version

If you're not interested in the addons you can download the "lite" version, which is a smaller download: https://www.moddb.com/mods/doom-ce/downloads/doom-ce-370-lite-version

It literally is too much of an effort to type in Doom CE in Google and following the hits, really?

Well, if you want a completely faithful DOOM 64 experience, then I think DOOM64EX should do the trick. It's not a mod for GZDOOM, but instead a port of DOOM 64 to PC.

It does require a ROM of DOOM 64, and I'm not at liberty to say how to get it.

There is also the official port, but uh......................... bethesda.

So what? The developers that worked on that port don't deserve to have the game purchased because uh..................bethesda?

You do know that buying the "Bethesda" official port supports the Doom 64 EX developer, right?

Is there a way to mod the actual DOOM 64 remaster release with stuff like reload animations? And maybe dynamic light effects from fireballs and rockets?

DOOM 64 CE and all those ports are fine, but i don't remember any of them getting the original environmental lighting right. You can also see how the lighting is wrong in all ports when you play the secret levels and see how the secret weapon keys are lighted. In the original (and remaster) they flash very intensely but in any other port the effect looks almost completely different and much more subtle.

It would be nice if the official remaster had a few extra graphical options and those reload animations and smoother weapons. That would be the ultimate way to play this game IMO.

The reason I need an original version of doom 64 for GZDOOM , LZDOOM is to use it in LZSPLIT Doom source port so me & my friend can play coop D64

that's the main reason I was needing to find a version that behaves like the original

TASACRI : IDK , that's a good question though , GLDEFS would look nice in D64...

Yeah I've been there done that , the only problem with EX is that it only has online multiplayer rather than local (better)

And I know nothing about netgames , people always try explaining how to play online multiplayer but it's confusing And I understand none of it...

But besides the local multiplayer flaw EX is really good

About as much as you can any other regular version of Doom. That being you can't, it doesn't fit the engine template.

Simply put: No, and there never will be, for one particularly fundamental reason.

Doom on PC uses a 35 Hz tick rate - in other words, actions happen every 1/35th of a second. Doom 64 uses a 30 Hz tick rate - in other words, actions happen every 1/30th of a second.

Those differences alone mean that it's impossible to reconcile. GZDoom/LZDoom do not allow for a variable tickrate; everything would have to be made to fit the 35 Hz rate of PC Doom, and that will create some slight inconsistencies.

The best ways to play it are EX or the Remaster. But since you want to play it via netplay, that is not only not possible (the original lacked it), but several mapping tricks would utterly break with multiple players (like a certain map fairly early on that depended on trigger lines and silently moving sectors to give a fake 3D floor effect).

So in short, what you want is a pipe dream. Sorry, pal.

Its not like you instantly download 1.6 GB based on a search bro. You literally just said where do i download it.

... It is too difficult for you to just add lite to the search so it says Doom 64 CE lite or even Doom 64 CE lite version? That literally gets me where i need to be.

And if you want a complete list, just use this: https://www.moddb.com/mods/doom-ce/downloads

Also you can quote multiple people in one post instead of making separate posts.

Some people don't like all the bells and fluff of ce experimental but it's a unique experience and a change of pace if you want something new.  If you want more of a challenge use the mod project void.. which adds new demons to the game.. for more of a challenge pair it with corruption cards with the added enemy deck.. it's a real spicy combination

I'm just saying that Bethesda doesn't understand what made the old DOOM games last so long. Modding.

Id Software are the ones in charge of Doom, but maybe you just misspoke. However even then present Id Software are the ones that granted us the opportunity to go back to Doom64 to fix it's modding support (remember that costs QA time) as well as distributing community add-ons for Doom on consoles and handing challenge coins to those authors.

They know full damn well modding is important to Doom.
