Essentially, yes, but I'm still somewhat firm with it in that you shouldn't go too far beyond it. About 20-25% over that margin is the ideal threshold to stay within. If the monster counts start reaching twice that amount and beyond, that marks a map as subject for disqualification.

Hey, just a quick couple of questions, can we submit maps that are already made? And can we submit more than one map?

The exact submission deadline for the contest has been decided. The deadline time is May 18th @ 8.00pm EEST, or 5.00pm UTC.

I'm not entirely against people submitting maps they've already made, but ideally, maps should be made specifically for the contest. And if someone does submit a map they made before the contest, it's obviously subject to the same rules.

Nope, only one map submission per person. Wouldn't be fair towards other participants if some people effectively had a higher chance of winning.

Hello Doomers! and MFG38!

 

I have a submission for the competition ready to go. However, there are a few hiccups here and there that I need to address. 

 

Firstly, I WAS making an original map, but the more I worked on it, the more I realized that I didn't have enough time to actually finish the damn thing (Me and my expanding maps!) So, what I have done instead is take one of my existing maps. (Stagnation, you might have seen it on this site.) and spent the last two weeks giving it a giant overhaul. (Working on navigation of the map, placing decorations, making new areas, adding lights, monster teleporters, fixing errors, completely redoing the texture work, fixing lighting, etc) And have decided to submit that because I genuinely think what I have done gives the whole map a new feel to it.

 

However that being said, It still contains the same basic layout and progression (apart from a few areas) making it a hugely updated, already existing map. 

I understand If I lose points for not creating a wholly original work from scratch, as you have to take that into consideration, but the truth is, I'm pretty damn proud of what I have done to bring it up to date and quite frankly, excited for people to see what I have done with it. 

 

Basically what I am saying is, I don't expect to win, But I just hope you enjoy the map! 

 

(I will include screenshots of before and after the update to give you an idea of what has been done :)

Map Format: GZDOOM, DOOM2 (LIMIT REMOVING)

Music: "It Breaths" by MFG38 

Textures: Q1tex, Otex, Source: Realm667, Eviternity.wad

Other Stuff: Lights and decorations Source: Realm667, Plasma Gun sound: Doom 3 

Difficulty Settings: YES

Tested in: GZDOOM

Play Time: 25-30 minutes on Ultra-Violence difficulty 

Description: The layout is very square based, but circular in its presentation, with every new pathway wrapping back around to main area. It showcases medium to long range fights and includes shootable linedefs to open new areas. (THINK JOHN ROMERO'S SIGIL) It is set in a castle/hell like environment.

@dmh094 Quick note (also for everyone else who happens to see this): you don't need to use the /idgames template for your readme file to submit to the contest, using the one given in the OP will suffice. I've gone ahead and copy-pasted the info from your post to a new text file so you won't have to resubmit the map. Just something I felt I should address.

Map Name: Manifold Frequency Gateway #38
Author: BeachThunder
Map Format: GZDoom UDMF
Music: Once Belonged.mid by MFG38
Textures: -
Other Stuff: -
Difficulty Settings: Yes.
Tested in: GZDoom 4.10.0
Play Time: Roughly 5 minutes.

Description: Decided to set myself a few constraints on this one. Ceiling textures all start with the letter 'M'. Side textures all start with 'F', and floors with 'G'. Also, 38 enemies and 38 items :)

Known issues: there might be some wonkiness with some doors, but probably nothing too serious.

Description: Hellspawn has stolen Doomguy's birthday cake!! Infiltrate this strange abode, secure the cake, and make it out alive.

Map Name: The Frozen Years
Author: jerrysheppy
Map Format: GZDoom in UDMF.  
Music: "When Hell Freezes Over" by MFG38 (mostly just picked it for the name tbqh)
Textures: 32-in-24; OTEX by Ola Björling (ukiro)
Other Stuff: None
Difficulty Settings: Some differences, but minimal.  A UV playthrough was used to make sure it felt about right.  I make no major warranties about other difficulties.
Tested in: Tested with GZDoom 4.10.
Play Time: Probably somewhere between 12 and 15 minutes for a moderately optimized 100% run?  It's ~150 monsters and you do cover a lot of ground but shouldn't get completely lost.

Description: A frozen cave system with an equally frozen fortress built into it, and something a bit more exotic lurking behind the surface.
