Adding non stock textures into your wad

Recommended Posts

Can anyone point me to some resources to understand how to do this?

A good guide for slade and what it can do would also be appreciated.

This side of mapping is black magic to me so if the community can help me catch up that would be amazing.

Are you using the actual WAD format or a PK3?

With PK3 it's pretty simple. Make a "textures" folder in the root of the PK3, and import any textures or flats into that folder. SLADE has a texture editor as well to help you fine-tune how the texture is interpreted.

With a WAD, I imagine there needs to be a marker of some sort that separates the texture from the other files. But I'm not familiar with the WAD format as much, sorry.

Good and proper version of the above link: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Adding_custom_textures

Also:

(Okay, maybe that's not the best tutorial as the guy seems quite confused about how stuff works, and he goes through a few entirely unnecessary steps such as getting a texture pack just to get the marker lumps because he doesn't know he can do Archive->New Entry to create them.)
