TasAcri Posted May 7, 2023 I wonder if anyone is trying this? It would be interesting to know how well (or badly) some of the most complex Vanilla wads (like KDIKDIZD) would run on the same PCs that were recommended to run DOOM and DOOM II back in the day... Like late 486s and early Pentiums. It would be a nice way to see the difference in how much more demanding these wads are with all the complex geometry and sizes. And how would they compare to more demanding (at the time) games as well. Like, is a modern wad more demanding than, say, the original Duke Nukem 3D? Or Blood? Or even Quake in software? Not talking about joke slaughtermaps that barely run on modern CPUs obviously. Just vanilla compatible wads that push the limits of the engine and those old PCs could, theoretically, run them. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheSlipgateStudios Posted May 7, 2023 Your best bet is to find vanilla compatile WADs and play them through DOSBox and see if they work, if you don't have actual hardware for those. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Or even better, 86Box, which more accurately emulates the old hardware and speeds. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
