Geqoph Posted May 7, 2023 We already have Doom as an FPS (duh), an RPG game (Doom RPG) and a semi survival horror (Doom 3). What other genres do you think would work for a Doom game? An RTS? Or maybe even an adventure game. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

WorldMachine Posted May 8, 2023 (edited) There's miniDOOM, that's kind of like a linear metroidvania Edited May 8, 2023 by WorldMachine 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
DNSKILL5 Posted May 8, 2023 (edited) Doom RTS. Like Command and Conquer only marines vs demons. I think it would work quite well honestly. I also think a third person shooter could work too. Edited May 8, 2023 by CAM-7EA 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Despite whatever other thoughts I have about the newer Doom entries, seems like marines/demons/angels would be a sort of terran/zerg/protoss type of balance. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

Dexiaz Posted May 8, 2023 Railshooter is not a really a "genre", it's still a FPS, but with different playthough rules. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I could see such a thing working in an arcade with a light gun, but on the PC I would personally consider this a not so great idea. It's basically taking away the features that made the game good, in the same environment that made it good. Edited May 8, 2023 by Murdoch 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Ningen666 Posted May 8, 2023 There is a game called Alien Shooter that is kinda like a twin stick shooter Doom with the Nashgore or bolognese gore mod loaded. I recall it being addictive. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
LouigiVerona Posted May 8, 2023 I was considering taking a stab at making a Doom Incremental :D 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

I used to play it so much I still sometimes think lost souls will be resistant to pistol shots in normal Doom. 2 hours ago, Murdoch said: I could see such a thing working in an arcade with a light gun, but on the PC I would personally consider this a not so great idea. Yeah, at that point you're better off playing Doom in VR. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
RataUnderground Posted May 8, 2023 (edited) A first person myst-like adventure walking simulator in a desolated earth, solving puzzles by punching mechanisms and trying to cope with all the memories and pain. Edited May 8, 2023 by RataUnderground 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
yakfak Posted May 8, 2023 cursed to be able to design Doom TCG in my head in a minute flat, but never be able to make it lol 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

It 100% plays by the rules of a roguelike, but it still feels just like Doom. I'm shocked they managed to do that. Maybe it's just all of the streamed sound effects and setting fooling me. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Now that I think about it, there's already a fan made doom RTS game. It has functional LAN multiplayer, but no campaign (the project was abandoned). IIRC it runs on the StarCraft 1 engine 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
whybmonotacrab Posted May 8, 2023 (edited) I always thought a doom game in the vein of those Hitman/Lara Croft/Deus Ex GO titles would be super neat. Edited May 8, 2023 by whybmonotacrab 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

You mean like an action stealth game? I don't see how that would work. I cam imagine a more horror-like stealth genre where you don't fight so much as jsut run and hide. Either playing as a civilian or a demon hiding from the Doomguy =P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I was thinking about how many bullets it takes to take down each demon the other day, and how much of a terrifying thought that is. The games I'm referring to though are turnbased puzzle games where you have to either take out or sneak past enemies, avoid environmental hazards, and stuff like that. Klear Posted May 8, 2023 Oh, I missed the "go" part and spent way too much time trying to mash the modern iterations of those games together AND with Doom. No wonder I was confused. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I mean, you're right, Railshooter in Doom makes "Doom game" less "Doomish", but it still can be cool action shooter, if you'll make some cinematic experience and interesting locations. It's still not a big problem here. But yeah, playing it on PC with mouse sounds strange. But I'd like to play that version, anyway. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
