Is filezilla FTP safe?

When I try to upload my wad to idgames server, a popup shows up affirming FTP is insecure.

Idgames predates a lot of the modern internet and secure protocols, thus it uses plain FTP, this means the connection could be intercepted and read by a man in the middle attack. Filezilla is warning you that it can't be sure that you're actually connected to idgames, and that there's no malicious actor watching the connection as there's nothing to verify against.

 

However, because you aren't using the connection for anything sensitive (passwords, banking details, etc), and you're only using it to upload to a public server anyway there's literally nothing such an attack would accomplish. There's no actual problem with the connection being insecure and it is perfectly safe to proceed.

 

To be extra clear you aren't getting a warning because there's something wrong, but rather you are getting a warning because it can't know if something is wrong.
