How is it supposed to protect humanity if we're killing the bad guys who would kill more than we would.

Every conflict ever be like...

"No Thirsting"

Soldier 1 to Soldier 2: "Okay, so I want you to kill this enemy combatant that has been knocked prone and is unable to defend themselves."

Soldier 2: "But I just wanted a glass of water.."

It's one thing to say, "I know there's a difference between my video game wars and wars in the real world," but it's something else to understand what those differences really are. This exudes the typical off-putting persuasion from corporate PR offices to consumers, and they've really got their work cut out for them with the audience they're targeting, but I'm interested to see where it goes (edit: if it isn't already over, they had one event a month ago).

There's a YouTube channel called History Buffs hosted by Nic Hodges who is both a Historian and a massive fan of Film. He reviews Movies set around historical events such as Waterloo and Casino as a historian, but what makes him intresting to me is that while he definatily values historical accuracy, he genuinily respects the art of film making and will roll with a films changes to historical events if they fit the tone or themes of the movie (though he's still obviously going to point them out). Saying "it makes learing history fun!" might get an eyeroll or two, but his video on Saving Private Ryan puts a certin scene just after the infamous D-Day landing in a fascinating new context.

I think the Red Cross should look to History Buffs for inspration if they're looking to raise awareness about the the geneva convention. I'd can imagine watching a war crime scholar with an understanding of game design talking about veriouse combat senerios presented in your Call of Duty's or your Far Cry's or even Stellaris and Rimworld.

I can't help but feel like I'm living in a flipping South Park episode right about now honestly.

All we need now is fir Kenny to die and some weird plot twist that either fixes the problem or doesn't yet everything goes back to normal.

Must be your keyboard, or something else on your end as it works fine for me.

Firstly, I would suggest to write separately instead of writing inside the quote comment. Like you did here. Because otherwise it seems that the person you quoted wrote this comment.

Secondly, about the civilian kill thing, I am sure there are plenty of games both within and outside the FPS genre that allow you to kill civilians, which may or may not impact gameplay. Some games give you a bad score, bad ending, mission failure, cost you life/health etc. for killing civilians. While others let you get away without any consequences (like scientists in Half Life 1) or even kind of encourage it.

I generally try to avoid killing civilians in video games most of the times anyway.

Fallout 2 heavily penalises you for killing children, Cyberpunk 2077 is like GTA with the wanted levels; in most games, there are heavy penalties for killing civilians that, if explored, only get harsher.

The difference in Cyberpunk vs. GTA is that if you accidentally kill a civilian (i.e. unintendaed hit-and-run), the police are on your ass right away.  In GTA, that's not the case unless you shoot/stab them.  However, GTA's wanted levels are far more penalising.  At three levels in Cyberpunk, I was easily able to get away.  At 3 levels in GTA, good luck.  GTA 5 I think goes up to 6 wanted levels.  At 6, you're fucked.  You're doomed.  Game over, man.

Far Cry 6 will kill you if you off three innocents or allies in a row.

So, I  think that, by and large, games do a pretty good job of showing you that that shit is not okay.
