Lone2401 Posted May 20, 2023 (edited) Warehouse Grotto, a single map for Doom 2, Boom compatible, complevel 9. This is another map for @Obsidian's Doomworld Maximum project. This time focusing on fast paced, Plutionia-esque combat. ScrappyMcDoogerton Posted May 23, 2023 Very challenging map. The second secret backpack was a bit disappointing, I would've rather it be a supercharge, but that's a small gripe in an otherwise great map. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Insaneprophet Posted May 23, 2023 That was not easy at all! 😀 Totally fun but not easy. I prolly died 30 times or so just trying to get a toe hold. Became much more managable once I killed those dam chaingunners by the bfg but i was still pretty much begging for health the whole way through. 😀 I dont know how exactly but i swear 30 seconds after getting a megasphere i was hoping for a stimpack... everytime. I only found 7 of the 10 secrets but I killed everything and thats all that truely matters. Thanks for making this. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
RastaManGames Posted May 23, 2023 (edited) A very spicy map, I must say. It wasn't easy cakewalk for me, so you were honest about Pluton-ish level of difficulty here. Few times I was confused by a large amount of various details and lost my track, but I was able to made it 'till the end. Overall, details themselves are fine, but can't say much about deep water, since it was kinda sad for me to navigate thru it. In the end I missed few enemies, items & 50% of secrets. Wo0p Posted May 23, 2023 (edited) Ouch, not a noob friendly map but who says it ought to be? Quite the fun map with some brain-wracking to do to solve the combat puzzles imo. Just finished playing through it on HMP in GZDoom with mouselook with 100% kills and 60% secrets. I refrained from jumping and crouching, cos I suspect you could bypass quite a few obstacles on the map if I had not. Theme and Texturing: 7/10 It's a warehouse... in a cave. That said, there's some definite attention to detail. Plenty of support textures between seams and some lovely attention to detail and beautifying in the modelling of the areas. In particular the tunnels were quite nice to look at imo, despite being vanilla textures :) Gameplay and Difficulty: 7/10 It's definitely plutonia hard as Rasta pointed out. Died quite a few times and the very first combat arena I had to run like a madman past a lot of monsters to get some better gear or some more health just to survive. After that though, it becomes more lenient when you consider your expanded arsenal. But it still busts your bawlls! I wasn't a fan of the constricted feeling of the map. There's basically nothing but tight corners and it exacerbated my undying hate for Doom's wallfriction and seeming inability to predict Revenant rocket trajectories. So that detracts from the score but that's just my opinion. Others may love tight corners because it challenges them even more. Spoiler Also spawning an Archvile, 2 Revenants and a chaingunner in a tiny room was a dick move >:( Readability and/or Directional Sense: 9/10 I got a little turned around but that's probably because I have a shit memory and trying to get cover from 3 or 4 chaingunners at multiple stages kinda messes with my attentionspan, so that's not on you entirely. The map is easily readable, big giant coloured signs for where to stick the next key and so on. And being a smallish map kinda also helps with rmembering where to go :) Bugs & Exploits Jumping and crouching definitely could break the map but luckily I didn't find any bugs! :) Edited May 23, 2023 by Wo0p 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted June 19, 2023 Played this - pretty good! Might be your best since that GZDoom map from a few years ago! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted June 20, 2023 Excellent ball-buster of a map with a very mean pistol-start and an elegance in its cruelty; someone's definitely done their homework and played their fair share of Thy Flesh Consumed and Plutonia. Visually, the map is wonderfully-detailed with great touches in lighting and the level progression flows beautifully too. I didn't notice any bugs or glitches, just unrepentant levels of nastiness that I know some people will greatly enjoy. Well done, fam. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
DoomBerry Posted June 20, 2023 (edited) Great map. Played on UV with saves. I have to say ammo is a bit tight at times, to the point where I was scavenging for clips. Edited June 20, 2023 by DoomBerry 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
