Eternity Engine, how to display new EDF defined keycards in the HUD.

Hello.

 

The last days i found out how to use the colour remap function in Slade3.

So i have made a test map with four new key colors.

The first three new key-colors are replacements for the three skull-keys.

That was not so hard as i only had to change their graphics.

The pickup messages could be changed with a dehacked lump.

So far so good.

 

But i wanted one or two keys more. So i made a light-brown key and defined it with EDF. It works so far. The only "problem" i have is that i can't get the new key-hud-symbol with lumpname BKHU to display on the HUD in the lower left corner from the HUD. Is that even possible with the EDF "artifact" + "icon" function on lines 23-30 on my EDF screenshot?

BKHU is a color remap of STKEYS3.

Anything HUD (minus automap) is unfortunately still hardcoded. For my own key replacements I altered the existing key and its corresponding key hud graphic.

I feared it. So i have to live without the symbols in the HUD for more then six Keys.

 

But what is these inventory and Icon thing for in the artifacts section from the EDF code?

Is this an heretic only thing?

It's there and functional, but again not yet visible to your player. The EE devs first want to fully implement Heretic / Hexen gameplay for which this is needed.

 

Doom stuff works though. So custom health, weapon, armor pickups and powerups work. Powerups are still limited to default Doom implementation. Example: you can use Berserk, but not change it to make it a temporarily powerup.

Good to know.

 

 

The real problem here was that i didn't know if it was my failure and there is a solution i did not know, or if the engine can't do more than 6 keys in the HUD and i have to live with it.

 

 

Fortunately it is only a cosmetic thing. More than 6 keys , except in the HUD, are possible and the doors have the right colors in the automap thanks to EDF.

 

When Heretic and Hexen are at a higher priority then this Key/Artefact/HUD thing i am happy too.
