The BMFG Posted May 21, 2023 lately, ive been having strange encounters on the wild west that is public l4d2 lobbies, ive come across a lot of weird folk in my years experience of playing multiplayer games. here are some good examples (this guy ran ahead of the entire team, a cardinal sin when it comes to l4d2. as its heavily focused on teamwork, and got destroyed by a hunter) there was also this guy who was just putting random garble in the text chat (this wasn't even in reply to anyone, he just kinda said this) this made me wonder, what is the weirdest interaction you've had on any multiplayer game? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
sudolinux Posted May 21, 2023 For me it was some guy talking about good and evil and religion to me (i can't remember) on a Zandronum server in 2020 or 2019. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
mrthejoshmon Posted May 21, 2023 My friend I play with online just so happens to be female. Her username is clearly female. In voice chat she sounds distinctly female. Now, to me this is no big deal because I have been outside, I have seen women, I know what women are and shockingly I speak to women. However, in game, it appears that women are a foreign concept. Every week some troglodyte expells his last braincell onto his keyboard over the fact they are in internet proximity to a woman, they commit the most out of pocket bizarro serial killer shit as if it is second nature (probably is). For example, a long time ago over the course of 1 Overwatch game, because she politely declined someone's request for her snapchat the gamer in question proceeded to track down every social media of hers and then proceed to explain how easy it was to track her down and find out who she was, then he proceeded to tell her what each one was called and how much danger she was in. Less than 5 minutes. Needless to say that isn't an issue anymore as shit's changed and on lockdown and it was like 3 years ago but still Jesus Christ. Being a woman online must suck. 15 Quote Share this post Link to post
HorseJockey Posted May 21, 2023 There was a glitch in Star Wars Galaxies that wouldn't allow you to leave speeders under certain conditions (Usually it was someone using The Hacks™), long story short I got into another persons speeder, and they took off driving, I couldn't get out of the speeder and they left me out in the middle of nowhere and logged off. Still to this day it was the weirdest thing I have ever experienced in an MMO. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Murdoch Posted May 21, 2023 (edited) 35 minutes ago, mrthejoshmon said: Being a woman online must suck. In gaming frequently yes. When I used to play online, a few times I had to tell idiots in game that yes, the person on my team was a real legit female. Fortunately they didn't pull any psycho shit either. Got to wonder at the mentality of some of these brain dead idiots thinking that their behaviour is going to be in any way perceived as positive or endearing. Lots of seriously screwed up people out there. I used to love L4D2 online so I can relate to the BMFG's stories of idiots getting themselves isolated and having a tantrum when no one backs them up. Mr. Freeze Posted May 21, 2023 (edited) Back in 2006 I taunted some kid so bad in CS: Source that he screamed for his dad, who then came on and started yelling at me over the mic. Sorry Timmy, but your deagle skills are not enough. Edited May 21, 2023 by Mr. Freeze 20 Quote Share this post Link to post

BBQgiraffe Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) a few years back I was playing multiplayer Project Zomboid with some buddies of mine, my friend found a modded weapon that was supposed to be a silent nerf gun or something, thing is that in this game zombies can hear gunshots and if you fire off a shot in a crowded neighborhood you will be surrounded, my friend thought that the distance zombies could hear sounds was based on the volume of the sound effect itself, but me being a funny little computer man thought "hey, that sounds very hard to implement, so it's probably just a hardcoded value for distance, and the modder for this weapon probably didn't change it from the stock one since it's a low-effort mod, so this is probably not a good idea to fire" and I shouted "NATE WAIT DON'T FIRE THAT THE ZOMBIES WILL HEAR IT" Nate of course, not believing me, fired it, a minute or so later every zombie in the neighborhood was pounding on all the windows and doors, we were then swarmed by about a hundred or so zombies and eaten, I have a screenshot of it somewhere lol edit: found the screenshot, you can tell it's old because it's back when the game still used pre-rendered sprites for the zombies and I was still running Windows Edited May 22, 2023 by BBQgiraffe 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
xScavengerWolfx Posted May 22, 2023 I think for me would have to be the time me and a friend (former) we're playing smite and we had an annoying kid in our party chat. This kid that would not shut the fuck up about stupid stuff which i will not repeat here for safty. But i remember telling the kid to basically shut up because it was getting annoying, then my friend said "dude, we're trying to have a good time. I think you should get off the baby sitting xbox and go get a real childhood. That kid went off on us to the point they started calling us slurs and other colorful things but the funniest part about all of it was when there mom came in and started yelling at them to turn off the xbox, me and my friend we're sitting there listing and laughing until the kid's mother said "I regret having you! I should've left you in the bucket with the rest of the shit" and kid left the party. After that me and my friend we're like "What...the....fuck man?" 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
DJVCardMaster Posted May 22, 2023 Every day a new League of Legends interaction comes in place. Nothing surprises me, not even that Nexalist thing from that weird online chat game Worlds surpasses those kind of interactions. There is a bug right now in which, now you can report players after the game, just looking at his summoner profile. The thing is, if you have ten accounts, you can report flood him ten times, and the system will, most possibly, ban or chat restrict him. Lame game from a lame indie company. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Denim Destroyer Posted May 22, 2023 Team Fortress 2: When I was younger (15-16) I was a member of a clan focused entirely on the Blu team. We had our assigned roles and a constantly evolving lore written entirely by the clan leader with neither having anything to do with the game itself. We would wage "war" against the friendlies, furries, bronies, and generally whatever was upsetting our leader at the time with this making us all look like jerks. This went on for the better of a year culminating in the leader getting banned from the server we played on due to intentionally driving players away which lead to the clan disbanding. I would discover several years later this man had several mental disabilities explaining his anti-social behavior and overall lack of reasoning skills. Lesson here is to be careful who associate with online. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Biz! Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) I was told to kill myself in a videogame over a furry avatar while playing some random hangout game on Roblox. Votterbin Posted May 22, 2023 In Firewall Zero Hour I got put into a team with a bunch of kids who were taking the game weirdly seriously and acting an actual military force. I'm talking, like, yelling "Clear!" whenever a room was empty, "Shots fired!" whenever they engaged an enemy, all that kinda stuff. VRChat breeds some strange interactions. One time my friends and I were hopping between worlds and ended up in a Black Cat Cafe instance where there were a bunch of people RPing as their avatars, doing impressions and all. Guile from Street fighter came up to me and asked if we were there for the party, and me in my Doomguy avatar kinda panicked and just went "unf." He broke his impression and told us what was going on and honestly we thought about joining in, but ended up just continuing our adventures. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

Zulk RS Posted May 22, 2023 So this isn't really a weird online interaction I had but rather probably a reason for someone else's "Weird Interaction Story" because I was the one doing the weird shit. I never really liked MMOs but I always did want to get into them. I got WOW and started playing and then hit the Free user level cap of 20. At that point I was bored and started doing weird shit. I used my stealth ability and started following this other random dude around for a couple of hours. Occasionally I would pop out of hiding to attack an enemy a few times and then disappear again. Finally it ended with the dude stopping and me coming out hiding and having a long silent stare down with no one saying anything in chat. Then we just parted ways. I feel like this would qualify as a "Strange interaction story" from that dude's perspective. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

fai1025 Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) I don't play much Online multiplayer game, even if I do I turn voice chat and text chat off. I'm a certified introvert even online. I can only recall that one time when I try CSGO multiplayer for the first time, I forgot to turn voice chat off. I joined a game, the map still loading, suddenly I heard an about 9 or 10yo kid, shouting "WHY U BETRAYYY MEEE, WHY!!!", shouting very loud into a probably 5 dollar MadeInChina microphone. I'm just sitting in my chair, sipping my tea. I quit immediatly after the map finish loading and never try CSGO multiplayer ever again. I think I did try CS multiplayer before when I was in elementry school. but not CSGO tho, probably 1.6 or Source or some weird Chinese version. all I remember from that time is arguing with Chinese ppl in text chat, and my shity computer running it at 20 fps. good o' days Edited May 22, 2023 by fai1025 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Azuris Posted May 22, 2023 Well not exactly an online Game, but on the Gog Galaxy Launcher Some Dude send me a Friendship Invite and i just acccepted. He wrote to me, that he has reas in the Forum and just thought to send me that invite. I thought ok and send one or two Messages with him. A few Weeks later i've spottet that he wasn't any longer in my List, there are only about five Persons in, as i don't really care. At least a Year later, i've got again an Invite from him. Ok, again accepting it He wrote if it is ok blabla and i responded that everything is fine. He complained about how rude and bad People are nowadays online and that it isn't as easy to just start a Conversation, i agreed that it was easier, when the Internet was more a Novelty, to just reach out to strangers. One Day later, he was again gone and i've seen, he blocked me haha A few Days after i've got a new Invite from him. But i now just blocked him... There are strange Persons out there. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
whybmonotacrab Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) Saw this on my guildchat in wow a little while back: Came completely out of nowhere and no one knew how to deal with it. Fortunately everyone was nice and just started trying to make sure she was taking precautions to be safe because we didn't want to hear about her being found in some dudes basement or having all of that money stolen from her. The_SloVinator Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) This one was really weird & it stuck with me for 14 years now. It wasn't in an online game but rather Steam chat. This was in 2009 when I created my Steam account & I befriended this UK person. At first, he seemed to be normal & chill but after a while, he started asking me for a help because he was getting.... eh... shot from the outside of his home. He then proceeded to describe quite in detail what he was doing at that moment, like "hiding under the desk" & repeated himself multiple times at how he was getting shot at. Needless to say, this was some poor attempt at trolling me because there is no way someone would message someone on an online chat constantly while his life was in danger. This went on for about an hour, so I got tired of his shit. He was removed from the friendlist & I changed my avatar & name. Never saw him again. lmao Edited May 22, 2023 by The_SloVinator 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

Well, seems like her thoughts were sitting in her and she had to let it out somehow. I've learned that in good Guilds People are normally very human and kindful. Had a similiar Case back then in Wow, but she told me about her Relation in private and i helped her with Advises. After checking if there is really nothing to save in their Relationship, she also moved all along Europe haha 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

If she needed a secret account and it being someone she met on WoW, you could make a few educated guesses as to what kind of relationship she's leaving. (hint: the only people she seems to be able to talk to are in her WoW clan) Good for her honestly Edited May 22, 2023 by Captain red pants gramma 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Was mostly concerned for her safety meeting the guy tbh since they'd never met in real life and I was especially worried if it was his idea for her to save up the money etc. The strangeness was just how out of the blue it was, and just how we all had no idea how to react at first. I haven't been on WoW in a while so I don't know how it ended up. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rockman Posted May 22, 2023 When I was playing Sven Co-op (Half-Life 1 mod), some guy joined with his username proclaiming that he was "my #1 fan". I tried to talk via voice chat but it wasn't set up correctly. So as I was messing around the mic, the guy spawned some turret and started speedrunning through the campaign. I left the game about 5 minutes later; it was getting kind-of creepy to stay any longer at that point. It was probably just some troll. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
