PhantomFool765 Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) A nice 4 Map episode I made myself, I would've gone the full 8 and made all the hell maps but I've made about 8 maps in just about now a whole month and I've ran just about all the ideas I've got for maps for now. Matt Eldrydge Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) Adding this to my backlog, expect some videos with your maps soon! Will likely come back to post my thoughts on the maps once I beat them vanilla. :) Thoughts after playing: All in all, an enjoyable little snack of a minisode! I quite enjoyed the texture variety and overall compact nature of these maps, with the choose-your-fight gimmick in map 03 being perhaps my favorite moment of the whole set - it's a nice thing that rarely seems to be done. I also liked the way the doors and keys were placed, and the compact nature of the maps also helps since when there is some backtracking to do, as most of them can be beaten in roughly 5 minutes after the first time. I wasn't expecting that archvile fight in map 02, but it was pretty nice if a little tricky with the plasma rifle. The reptile naming for the maps is also a nice touch! I found no bugs or softlocks, aside from this room in map 04 having some lines that aren't visible on the automap: Edited May 22, 2023 by Matt Eldrydge Adding some C&C 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

As for the Automap bug I think that may not be a bug and just that the dual computers prevent you from loading the walls onto the automap. I wouldn't really know since I never use the Automap at all. I'm also glad you noticed the map naming scheme, I was worried it'd get overlooked, Fun facts about the naming scheme is two things, MAP03's Courtyard is shaped liked the Frilled Lizard and as the maps increase in size so do the lizards the maps are named after! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Summer Deep Posted May 23, 2023 I managed to play through these maps on UV without a death, and think they'd definitely be better as introductory levels to tougher ones in a full episode. Like the previous poster, I felt that MAP03 was the best in terms of action and scenery (loved the outdoor area at the start). For some reason the map had two yellow keys, neither of which I could find a use for, though I got 100% kills and there were apparently no secrets. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Though the yellow key, It's used for the exit door only and it's basically just to ensure you go through both sides of the level before leaving. The thing about Secrets is I'm just really bad at them so I didn't have any in most levels, there will be more secrets in these 4 maps when I finish part 2 and merge them together don't you worry. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

LadyMistDragon Posted May 24, 2023 Took a quick trip since the structure was simplistic and I'm, again, low on time for the moment, and I had forgot that this is meant for continous play, as it happens. And your taste in music is quite excellent. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Hm, could be that! I tend to consult the automap fairly often (mostly out of habit and in case I'm missing something), so that one's on me. :P I did find a small oversight in map 01, the blue door has its back linedef flipped so once you cross it, you can't go back to the first half of the map. It's really not a big deal, just felt I should mention it since in the video I talked about it but won't publish it for a few more days - one of the disadvantages of running a daily upload schedule, sadly. Aside from that, I really didn't notice the frilled lizard in map 03's courtyard immediately but after you said it, I can see the resemblance! That's it, looking forward to whatever you cook up next. :) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
