The archvile isn't mean, he is the easiest demon to deal with in Doom. (Plutonia is even easier)

Maulotaur is a healthy member of proud beast man race that fight for serpent riders. While cyberdemon is a mutilated demon that was "enhanced" in some of the hells chop shops. Dick was probably a tradeoff for hand cannon.

This is the vertical view of a vertebrae in the Revenant's spinal column (similarly visible on a dead Hell Knight or Baron, see example below) which represents how the Revenant's body is forcefully ripped in twain as his entire upper half is torn from his legs with the torso being propelled a distance backwards onto the ground, making it one of the most extreme and violent deaths the player will come across in Doom.

I was gonna say the revenant's hole is the spinal column but looks like you beat me to it with an even more in-depth explanation.

 

Though I don't think the Revenant's legs are actually being torn apart. It's a skeleton and there was just a mass of muscle holding its upper body to the legs to begin with. I don't think the lower body of the revenant actually receives much visible damage in the death animation. That's just how it looks. What is happening though is that its head is exploding.

Voxel Doom is very much a fan interpretation, but you can see me examining a baron corpse in detail here. It makes sense to me.
