Really fun and creative wad here. Some cute jokes and great utilization of scripting to make the gameplay more than just "kill all monsters, exit level." You might want to suggest playing without mods enabled, as I found playing with my mods broke the scripting and made the "helping" path impossible to progress after collecting the red skull.

This map is great : p
I feel a bit bad for the poor Archviles, but what can you do. I loved it, although I wish there would have been enough ammo to take care of the cyberdemons. 
It also would have been nice if you pointed out the exit a little better, but those are minor details.

Thanks for the kind words! I didn’t test with mods so I’ll have to check that. The pacifist path is shoddily scripted so I’m gonna be releasing an updated version fixing some of the bugs and whatnot.

Man - I really want to play this because it seems like a such neat idea! But for some reason everything gets aggressive no matter what I do, can't explore because viles are around every corner and start attacking me. The 3 at the beginning are the only friendly ones. Does not seem to be behaving like in @RataUnderground's video. I can capture my own video of it if you'd like, or try things to help debug it, or maybe I'm just doing something wrong?

Huh, that would mean the script that makes them friendly at the beginning got broken on your end somehow. Are you playing with any gameplay mods?

Ok, so I released an quick updated version which fixes the scripting issues with the pacifist path, as well as some other general changes. If you plan on playing this, please donwload the new version!

Archvile Town is a single-level PWAD for Doom 2, designed for GZDoom. It consists of a village full of friendly archviles surrounded by natural scenery. The story is that you have come to the town to try and get all of their skull keys. However, the archviles are very protective of their keys, and won't let you take them (at least not for something in return). Will you help them out to get your prize or take them forcibly? As you would expect, this is a bit of a story focused WAD.

 

Features:

  • Branching path! Choose to help or kill the residents of Archvile Town.
  • A quest (with dialogue), which takes you to an area exclusive to the pacifist path
  • Around 10-15 minutes of playtime if choosing one path and 20-25 minutes if replaying for both.
  • Trees!
  • A bit of doomcute, including an Archvile Bar (yes really)
  • And last (but not least), another great music track by my good friend DisPatch (Patrick Chaney)

AWESOME!

Beat the game with the "Pacifist Ending". The Cyberdemon bossfight at the end was awesome!

 

Love the characters. Especially "Old Man Jenkins"!

 

Old Man Jenkins seems a bit racist towards humans at the beginning tho.. lol.
"Git out! we dont like your kind round here!" - Old Man Jenkins

No mods that I know of. Played around with it a bit more - re-downloaded gzdoom and now it works - very odd. Loved the map by the way!

Hmm, maybe parts of the script didn't work on the older (i'm assuming) version of GZDoom you had? Also, thanks!

That was kind of funny. Kind of. Honestly, I've been waiting for something like this. Sorry I don't have much to say. Maybe I wished that everyone had dialogue....but maybe that would be unwise. Like why does Doomguy want the crummy keys anyway? XD

Yep! Didn't realize how old my gzdoom was, version 2.1.0, so now I have 4.something lol
