DWANGO30 - Celebrating 30 years of Deathmatch! [Community Project - ALL SLOTS FILLED]

Recommended Posts

Here are some screenshots from a map that I originally designed for TWANGO, but I left the project. I am adding a new outer wall area, and I want to revamp the item placement to make it fit this project more. What do you think about the geometry so far?

Looks cool! I'm also a big fan of metal frames/beams with shadows beneath; the midtexture you used with it in the second screenshot is nice detail as well.

Just starting to put the finishing touches on along with some minor adjustments here and there.

Here's the first version of my revamped map 240kilo.zip. It requires a resources wad from the first post to run. I am unable to post new screenshots for some reason, but you can check the old ones here:

Description/Info:
First deathmatch level I've made, I really don't know much about deathmatch mapping, but I gave it a try. :)
That said, I imagine this will certainly need balancing/item placement changes and I look forward to feedback! I also got a bit carried away with the size; I hope that's alright lol. I also tried a particular approach to spawning; hopefully it works out well.

This has certainly been an interesting project to contribute to, thanks for hosting it!

Map Name: Blood Vine Fort

Midi: Final Boss (sonic 3) - sequenced by Mars Jenkar

Skybox: Sky3 (the orange one)

Slightly undetailed but still fun. Went for a E4 styled map with some DM mapping traits from the late 90's early 2000's.

Donut: Blood Vine Fort

Hi, just figured put this here:

Spoiler

Making my first deathmatch level was so much fun that I went ahead and starting working on another these last few days just for the heck of it (more reasonable scale/shaping up to probably have better gameplay than my submission).

Not sure what I'll do with it, but if my submission turns out to not be up to standards, I was thinking this could be a reasonable substitute. Not sure if that's something that's allowed; but I just figured I'd put that out there. :)

I've been out of town :) Also I wanted to give people a little extra time to submit. I'm going to tag everyone who hasn't submitted soon and make sure they still intend to map - and if not, open their slots back up!

I can't supply any new info, but I can at least supply this. I desperately needed a quick musical exercise to shake off my rust, so I made you guys a DM2TTL theme that samples some of the DWANGO classics. Hope you enjoy it, and good luck on your maps!

This is a beautiful musical collage.. Perfect title MIDI.

"Rug-pull maneuver" my ass, Doomkid - all this work came about because dozens of people rallied to match your infectiously positive enthusiasm for classic deathmatch. Take it as proof that you've made a career out of making new Doom fans. If there's anybody here who is fully qualified to step back for a while, it's you, because the knowledge you teach and the passion you share has made everyone you've touched more prepared to lead, to create, and to collaborate. That's not pulling the rug out from under your fellow Doomers, it's giving them a podium!

That means a lot to me Cammy, thank you. I still have long term plans to continue trying to contribute to this community.. Hopefully someone is willing and able to make a great finished product out of these parts we have here :)

Although I'm way to amateur to take over, I've compiled a folder containing hopefully every currently available maps into an organized folder, with each map now having a slot. I've also included the Midi files created by @Korp & @Cammy and a document with the current map list with every author & midi used. @DJVCardMaster's map "Infernal Skirmish" originally for the bonus WAD has also been included, however @DoctorNuriel's map sadly hasn't been included yet as the MediaFile download wasn't working. Hopefully this can help organize things for whoever would be willing to help continue this project. :)

If leadership does not get transfered into a serious Dwango 30 related project, with someone that can manage to get this done, I would prefer for my maps not to be used, so, unless someone can guarantee me Dwango30 will be compiled and finished, I will withdraw from the project and save my maps for the future.

Sad to hear Doomkid is dropping out as he is one of those who are capable of managing such a project like this, because of his experiences with DM mapping and mapping career overall.

I'll be following this thread for future changes in development, cheers.

Hey there, I would like to call attention to this project again. I'm not the person to lead this further and don't know who else could take over, but there must be somebody. In the meanwhile I suggest (just a suggestion) that we all keep tinkering away and finish our maps if still not completed. I can't imagine this project not getting finished so we might as well do some work on it if we can :)

Looking forward to seeing more stuff happen around this project. And thank you for everything @Doomkid! Hope you get a bit of rest for a while.

p.s. I have started work on an ENDOOM screen for this, if that's ok.

I agree.

Release date?

Dwango30 celebrates 30 years of Dwango.

According to the Doomwiki, Dwango "...was created in early 1994... The first version was released with the shareware release of Heretic".

The shareware version of Heretic was released December 23, 1994.

So if Dwango30 is released anywhere in 1994 it will still hold up to its name.

So...

Proposed Plan:

Mappers keep mapping.

Every 2 months a wad can be compiled with the latest material to check the status of the project.

How many maps?

At least 30 maps are needed... because, well it has '30' in the name :-)

Endoom

@Peccatum Mihzamiz: I don't think anyone objects to you making one.

I can't help but wonder though: Is the Endoom screen even displayed in Deathmatch ports?

GFX

As Doomkid pointed out, I made some custom graphics for the project.

Download Dwango GFX
