Rayziik Posted June 9, 2023 (edited) TPWW is set to be a collection of unapologetic slaughter/challenge set-piece focused maps, mixed with combat puzzle-esque design philosophies, a small bit of story-telling, and just a touch of obnoxious switch puzzles. This release contains two complete maps, as well as the first Prologue map, a teaser for the third map, and a version warning map. Difficulty settings have been implemented. If you aren't someone who enjoys macro-slaughter and challenging set-piece style combat, it is highly recommended that you use skill 3 or skill 2. The intended experience of this project is to enjoy it. If you insist on playing on skill 4 and are not having fun or are not able to succeed, consider lowering the difficulty level. = Pictures: (linked thumbnails) MAP02: MAP01: Spoiler = Design Notes: This project is only tested in DSDA-Doom, version 0.27.0 or newer. Any other ports that are MBF21 compatible, AND support MAPINFO, should be able to run this project, but performance is not guaranteed. Jumping/crouching/free-look are not required or recommended, use at your own peril. Gameplay modifications are likely not compatible; this project utilizes Dehacked to include new decorations and monsters, and is balanced with these changes in mind. Again, use at your own peril. - Weapons Changes: The Fist does the same amount of, but usually less random, damage. The Chainsaw is replaced with a Sword. It has longer reach and benefits significantly from berserk. The Pistol is replaced with a Rifle. It is perfectly accurate, fires faster, and does slightly more damage. The Shotgun fires an extra pellet, and has a slightly tighter grouping, making it more reliable. The Chaingun is replaced with the Super Chaingun. It fires twice as fast as the original. - Monster Changes: The Specter is replaced with the new and improved Specter 2.0. The Lost Soul has only 60 hit points. The Baron of Hell has a 1-2 attack, making him slightly more threatening. - New Enemies: The Fallen; a fiery bird-like skeleton that fires revenants missiles. 150 hit points. The Martyr; a former human with a plasma rifle, fires in two shot bursts. 50 hit points. The Cambion; a large, bulky demon with only a strong melee attack. 600 hit points. A Green Cyberdemon variant; functions the same as the red one. 1200 hit points. More monsters may appear as development continues... - New Powerups: Rejuvenation Sphere; a golden colored Soulsphere that restores health to 200%. = Downloads: The Pilgrim's Westward Way - Map 02 (2/22/2024) • Mirror = Known Issues: MAPINFO does not translate Par times correctly for the intermission screen. This is a port issue, is known about, and should be fixed in the next update. MAP01: Spoiler Apparently a column got lowered on accident in the RSK area... (fixed) Possible to soft-lock by skipping the north GSK area and backtracking into it from above after the final fight (fixed) MAP02: Ammo acquired at the very start of the map is not intended, and is meant for a later fight (fixed) The yellow and red key doors leading to lecterns are marked for only one use on each side (fixed) A platforming secret in the yellow area can be broken if re-entered fast enough (fixed, definitely) The exit texts have brightness adjustments set incorrectly (fixed) A white door trigger is located rather close to an actual switch and doesn't have pass-thru set (fixed) A hidden teleporter in the red area is missing textures when lowered (fixed) MAP03: The starting room text is the wrong graphic (fixed) = Credits: - Resources: The Doom 2 Minor Sprite Fixing Project is integrated into this Project: https://www.doomworld.com/vb/post/1126249 Most custom resources came from the repository at https://www.realm667.com/en/. A full list of custom resource credits will be compiled at a later date. Textures used come from 32in24-15_tex. The green palette range is used from the first Wormwood. The art and music are by a band named 'Slice the Cake'. The story bits are quotes and interpretations of their song lyrics. - Playtesters: @Meowgi @Master Medi @BiZ @Petyan @General Roasterock @Napsalm Shadowderpy Edited June 11, 2024 by Rayziik Known Issues added 55 Quote Share this post Link to post

Napsalm Posted June 9, 2023 I can only agree with Meowgi's statement. This is an awesome experience. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rayziik Posted June 10, 2023 (edited) There was a small visual error in the RSK area, that has been fixed and the download link updated. It's nothing gameplay critical so don't worry about updating if you've started a play-through already. Edited June 10, 2023 by Rayziik 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Red Recluse Posted June 10, 2023 Glory challenge I have excellent weekend. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rayziik Posted June 11, 2023 A very unlikely, but still possible soft-lock was found. The download link has been updated again. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
SakuraFalls Posted June 13, 2023 Hi, I will check this map out later! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
slowfade Posted June 13, 2023 Impressive. The scale of these kinds of maps is something else, and to think it's only the first map. Good luck! As I'm not much of a player I played with cheats and the blue key puzzle I didn't solve. But I walked around admiring the architecture. Check out the plant boxes / whatever in the final arena. I could fall into the corner of one and there's no way out. Maybe block them with linedefs altogether? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

(pic in spoiler) Spoiler They're marked as player-blocking on all edges. Maybe you were no-clipping or using the wrong complevel? Edited June 14, 2023 by Rayziik 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
slowfade Posted June 15, 2023 (edited) Definitely no clipping cheat on. I tested again and I can drop into all four plant areas. Not from everywhere because the trees block, but each has a corner -- the corner where the stairs turn 90 degrees. I walk over the hedge and drop into the shrubs. Perhaps the complevel is the fault, then: I didn't set it, I just dragged and dropped the wad over prboom+. Edited June 15, 2023 by slowfade 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ausara Posted June 15, 2023 5 minutes ago, slowfade said: Perhaps the complevel is the fault, then: I didn't set it, I just dragged and dropped the wad over prboom+. prboom+ doesn't support MBF21. You need a MBF21 compatible sourceport like DSDA-doom, woof, or gzdoom. Also you usually want to specify the complevel when launching, as many wads require certain complevel features be it boom, MBF or in this case MBF21. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rayziik Posted July 4, 2023 (edited) Another minor update to map 01. Mostly some visual error fixes, and a couple minor changes to a few monster teleport destinations. The download link has been updated again. Edited March 23, 2024 by Rayziik 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rayziik Posted January 15, 2024 (edited) Hello there. An update appears: this time bringing MAP02 into play. Alongside this, there is a a Prologue map that functions as the first map of the first episode. Returning Pilgrims may enjoy starting from the main menu, and entering the episode from here in order to preview a bit of the project's scope. A text screen follows this map as well, if you're interested in gathering lore. MAP02 features many set-pieces based on concepts such as crowd control, crossfire, overwhelming a static player, position awareness and spacing, and some platforming. There's also 4 secret encounters for those who explore everything. Enjoy. Due to new features and MAPINFO support having been added into DSDA-Doom, it is highly recommended that you update to Version 0.27.0 or newer. = Downloads: The Pilgrim's Westward Way - Map 02 (1/14/2024) • Mirror Edited January 15, 2024 by Rayziik 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rayziik Posted January 15, 2024 Oops, quick update to fix a few stupid mistakes I didn't catch. If you've started playing already you probably won't find them unless you try to break stuff or you get very unlucky, and there's a few visual things that I fixed as well. The worst issue was a bug at the start of map 02 that affects a later fight and I didn't use the right text on map 03 for the preview... That's what I get for not double checking. Same links for the download. Sorry for the inconvenience! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
slowfade Posted January 15, 2024 Cool map. As I'm not a good player I just breezed through with cheats, heh. Better players ought to have fun with it. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rayziik Posted February 23, 2024 Another update, this time a bit of work for both MAP01 and MAP02. Some of the most important bits: -Added ambient sounds, and added more to 01 and 02 depending on location -Adjusted some linedef action parameters in 01 (examples: a switch that didn't make noises, and a lowering floor that was too slow) -Removed some redundant/incorrect mid-textures -Fixed a couple very unintentional softlock scenarios in some of the secrets on 02 -Added a new set of sprites to represent the full-health restoring Rejuvenation Sphere in 02 -Fixed some grammatical errors in secret texts on both maps -Fixed/changed some of the intermission texts -Adjusted the midi on 02 so that it takes longer to repeat and adjusted the mix for easier listening And otherwise there's some behind the scenes changes that just make things run a bit smoother and fix a few visual errors, again. With all that taken care of, special thanks to @Vile and @brendondle for their play-throughs of MAP02, which enabled me to discover and fix a lot of things afterwards. Now to start working on MAP03 proper... Remember to update to at least version 0.27.0 of DSDA-Doom! = Downloads: The Pilgrim's Westward Way - Map 02 (1/14/2024) • Mirror 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Arwel Posted March 7, 2024 Awesome stuff, this gotta end up high in many all-time slaughter favourites lists! 🔥 I'm not sure this is something worth fixing anyhow but in Map02 I ended up in crusher fight without BFG. Feels almost impossible this way. The only reason this happened is because I didn't come close to BFG pedestal earlier because I thought I must finish other fights for pedestal to lower. Anyway, Map02 is brilliant and I enjoyed pretty much every single fight, also those texts... 🤌 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
