Are there any good guides for Ultimate Doom Builder?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to get into doom mapping but I'm having difficulty because all the guides are too short and won't tell me everything.

Thanks in advance.

I'm kinda confused on what you mean by good guides. For me i just messed around with the editor and learned how sectors and tags worked. Think of it as a trail and error thing.

As far as good guides, i suggest watching this to get a better idea of what you should and should not do in a map editor:

But if you ask me on good guides on mapping, i'll tell you to just mess around in the editor and find out what dose and dose not work

I would second David newton's videos.

This one in particular I frequently recommend to new mappers. The author slowly and clearly walks through creating a map from start to finish, and covers the vast majority of the basic functions you'll need. It's quite long (like an hour) so find some time when you're free, and settle in to watch it.

I never really got into watching Doom mapping videos when I first started mapping, so there was this weird period of my mapping, where I would make crappy levels, that took alot of time to build, because I didn't know about any of the level editor's features, so it took me about an year and a half to create semi-decent levels. So basically, watching Doom mapping tutorials and Doom mapping time lapses is a huge time- and lifesaver! :)

There are parameters in some windows of UDB that I think whose purpose and effect good be explained in a few words with a pointer to or reference to an index number or letter on an illustration.  Not to say there is anything wrong with learning by experimenting with features when you have the time, instead of waiting for you want to use them and don't have the patience. By the way, that's my approach whenever I get a new smartphone.
