leejacksonaudio Posted June 13, 2023 (edited) This question would apply mostly to streaming network subscribers, although it could apply to watchers of DVR streams as well. What is the most recent series you've streamed/binged? I'll kick things off with Star Trek: Lower Decks. I binged the complete first season the other night. I want to get started with season two, but I'm still recovering. My wife binged Star Trek: Picard, and she made me catch the last two episodes, so I wouldn't call that a "watch" per se on my part. Jello Posted June 13, 2023 I watched "Smiling Friends" on... Max... since I just signed up for it. I still think it's a terribly designed service, it has so many bugs and glitches in it. But Smiling Friends was pretty enjoyable. Even if the last episode was a complete joke, which I assume it was supposed to be. But it was really enjoyable if you like Adult Swim cartoons, which I do. And I did really enjoy Star Trek: Lower Decks, it was nice seeing a lighthearted side of Star Trek. It just gets better in season 2 and 3 and I think you'll enjoy it. And if you like that, I might suggest "Dogs in Space" if you have Netflix. It's kind of a riff on the original series, but with dogs, in space. I was dubious at first, but it's really sweet and heartwarming, and it actually has some pretty darn good storylines. I mean, how can you not fall in love with this? Other than that, I've just been catching up on all the South Parks I've missed on Max, since Hulu stopped airing new episodes a few years ago. They're decent. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MS-06FZ Zaku II Kai Posted June 13, 2023 (edited) I´ve been watching Demon Slayer on Netflix. It´s a Japanese anime set in Taijo period in Japan around 1920´s (which is realy interesting because the setting shows how japanese society at the time was modernizing and transitioning from feudal society into a capitalistic one) and it´s about a boy named Tanjiro whose family is masacred by demons (well basicaly they are vampires for all intents) and his sister Nezuko, who as the only survivor is infected and turned into demon, though she retains part of her humanity. The main plot then follows their adventures across Japan, as they join a corp of demon hunters in a quest to find and kill the head demon who caused the massacre at the begining and also possibly finding cure for his sister. Now while the show is mainly made for younger audience (teenagers), it can be very bloody with some prety gruesome scenes of people being eaten, torn apart or otherwise mutilated by demons. Though the show shows some restraint, but it is still nice to see a series which is not afraid to show the brutality of vampires demons and there are so far plenty of lighthearted moments that serve to relieve the tension of the main plot. The animation is realy well done as one could expect for modern high budget shonen, with some breathtaking setpieces and amazing action scenes. The design of the varius characters from the main cast to extras is also very striking and appealing. They have this unique type of look, that I haven´t seen in other anime yet, very striking and unique and the demons of course have interesting design and abilities as well. Would I recomend it? Eh, that depends of you are into these types of shows and if you are somewhat familiar with Japanese animation to realy apreciate all the techniques in the animation and story department. If the answer is yes, then Demonslayer is for you. Edited June 13, 2023 by MS-06FZ Zaku II Kai 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
hybridial Posted June 14, 2023 I finally decided to get Netflix, I kinda wanted to watch all of Castlevania, I saw Season 1 at a friends back when it first came out. I've heard varying things about the other seasons but overall, I have decide I will watch them and I've lined up other things once I have so I'll at least get some value for my money. 14 hours ago, MS-06FZ Zaku II Kai said: Now while the show is mainly made for younger audience (teenagers) Yeah I took a look at Demon Slayer and that quickly made me lose interest when that became apparent about it. Eurisko Posted June 14, 2023 Andor (Star Wars) Slow paced but very well told. Really shows the inner workings of the Empire. Real nasty bastards. Well worth a watch if you like a bit of Star Wars. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I mean if you realy look into it they are basicaly vampires for all intents and purposes. And vampire fiction is almost always tamer then demon fiction. On the other hand I couldn't absolutely stand Netflix Castlevania (after season 2). The constant quips and swearing became completely excesive and made my eyes roll into my skull, and the tone was all over the place. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Most of the negative stuff I've heard is for season 3, but I've been told season 4 manages to bring things back up and end the story well, from someone I trust the opinion of so I'm willing to watch all of it knowing that. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Rudolph Posted June 14, 2023 Elementary. Unfortunately quite copagandistic, but still a much better modern take on Sherlock Holmes than Steven Moffat's insufferable Sherlock. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Are there even still people who like that show? I was under the impression that everybody started hating it after its trainwreck of a final season. As for Elementary, it does a good job at making Lucy Liu's Watson into Sherlock's equal and Sherlock Holmes into a more interesting character with flaws and also a capacity for growth and empathy. The show also had the surprisingly correct idea of getting Moriarty out of the way fairly early on. Edited June 14, 2023 by Rudolph 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Got to give credit to Arnie for still looking credible in action scenes at age 75. I also watched the four latest Repair Shop episodes while my lady was away for work. Love that show. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lippeth Posted June 14, 2023 In the throes of binging Family Matters, haven't seen it since it aired on tv and I convinced a friend to finally finish the last season of Deep Space Nine for the first time. So while I'm laughing at the quite brilliant slapstick situational comedy, and tearing up/cringing at the more family oriented moments and 90s PSAs, I get to talk Trek with a friend. He got through 1-6 of DS9 and stopped at the final season because of the Dax situation, but after a lot of convincing that the writers made the best of a bad situation and having my enthusiasm for trill in general rub off on him, and also now that the main plot is underway he's fully onboard, and hopefully primed for Voyager. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

(BTW, she has the same exact birthday as me - we'll both be 60 this year.) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Lippeth Posted June 15, 2023 From what I gather, Terry Farrell not renewing her contract for one more season was because it wouldn't have allowed her to have less screen time in order to do other acting jobs and she was overall exhausted with the show's long hours and wanted a break, as well as having constant issues with producer Rick Berman being a creep. Even though her character dies so suddenly and only a few episodes after already having a much more dramatic near death in a jungle with Worf, her being a trill is a unique opportunity to see firsthand what it's like when a character you know so well joins with a new host. Despite the somewhat similar casting I like how they portray how awkward it would be to make the transition, for both the host and the other crew members. Things like Sisko endearingly calling Jadzia "old man" for the first six seasons, suddenly not going over as well with Ezri who's now twice removed from Curzon. In "reality" Ezri Dax would probably not stay on the station because the whole idea of the trill is to have many experiences, but as a final season of a tv show I understand the need to keep her around and fill the same space as the last actor, and I think the writers did a decent job at riding that line of making both the producers and the audience happy. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

FecalMystAche Posted June 15, 2023 FUBAR and Tulsa King. Monica Barbaro (I recognized her from Top Gun: Maverick) is a highlight for FUBAR for sure, and Tulsa King’s cast really has a lot of great chemistry building from episode to episode. I enjoyed them both a lot and hope there will be more seasons to come. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
QuaketallicA Posted June 15, 2023 (edited) I'm starting to get into It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I recognize one of the stars, Glenn Howerton, who used to be on the cancelled That 80s Show that lasted only a season. My favorite show is Boston Legal, starring James Spader, Candace Bergens, and William Shatner. It's hilarious, gripping, sexy, topical, and quite intelligent on a number of hot-button issues. It's the perfect mix between the seriousness of The Practice and the zaniness of Ally McBeal, two of the creator's other legal dramas. Also re-watching the occasional Futurama episode. I haven't seen Futurama in years. Edited June 15, 2023 by QuaketallicA 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

JustAthel Posted June 15, 2023 I recently finished watching the entire Charmed reboot and... gonna be honest, it really started out rough at first but I'm really sad that it got canned as soon as it did. I really liked how they basically modernized Charmed, at times it felt like a proper extension of the OG (though the OG will always be something that sticks with me forever, thinking about rewatching the entire series one of these days). Plus the fact that the reboot kind of ended on a cliffhanger doubly makes me sad for what could have been :( 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

P.S. I forgot to mention, Rene Auberjonois, the guy who played Odo on Deep Space Nine is also a regular on the show, as one of the firm's senior members. He plays the sane one that holds everything together. Edited June 15, 2023 by QuaketallicA 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
