129thVisplane Posted June 13, 2023 (edited) While visiting Daisy in bunny heaven, Doomguy decides to stop by in doggy heaven and see what's up. Unbeknownst to him, Hell got there first. Today is June 13, 2023, the 17th birthday of a someone very special to me, and I am releasing the release candidate of a short but spicy map that straddles a fine line between "early zdoom jokewad" and "deep dive into my mental state for the past year". Details enclosed in attached pk3 document. (thats a fancy way of saying download) The necessary details: Doom 2 iwad, MAP01 replacement, GZDoom required port (hardware rendering with software sector light mode, shadowmapped dynamic lights, and untextured automap preferred) likely compatible with a bunch of gameplay mods but not tested with any close the game to exit (i couldnt think of a good place to put an exit) we now have an exit and a backtrackporter known bugs: the waterfall rainbow may jank out at certain angles due to wallsprite jank. the acs code is also jank. jank all around unknown bugs: there's always some in there only tested by a few people so pointers and bug reports welcome protip: talk to dogs. some dogs may hold valuable information (also applies to real life) The screenshots: Spoiler Edited June 21, 2023 by 129thVisplane 26 Quote Share this post Link to post

horselessheadsman Posted June 14, 2023 Short but sweet. I enjoyed the usage of ambient noises, realized the various environments more. The boss fight was a interesting variation on the Icon of Sin, though the sniping revenants were exceptionally annoying. Had a alcove in the forest where one could enter but not leave. Spoiler In the boss arena, the player can accidentally fall behind two bushes and be trapped there. 129thVisplane Posted June 15, 2023 (edited) thanks for the feedback everyone <3 i enjoyed watching the vids. rc2 is now out: load of down changelog: replanted some offending stuckable bushes forest alcove area is now a thing (i had forgotten to actually finish it before) it appears the cleanup crew had gotten distracted by the big bone. the two starting area imps should now be correctly tagged for removal as per the wise dog's advice, the cat's tail is now 3x more chaseable red door is now 33% more demonic the wise dog is now 80% wiser, but will divulge his wisdom in a random manner (i looked up how randomized dialogue works) swamp hellknights should now be harder to accidentally aggro prematurely, and the swamp house door is tied to them the demons of the forest are 100% spooky now hopefully these changes didnt break anythingthey did, lord knows the acs in this map is a precariously balanced jenga tower of factory reject dog treats EDIT: hotfix: in an unsurprising turn of events i have indeed janked up the scripting. should be fixed now. if you downloaded rc2 before this edit, redownload it now edit2: hotfix 2: did i jank up the player starts? maybe. the map also has an exit now edit3: amended the final gatekeeper quote and added multiplayer starts although multiplayer is 100% untested and probably doesnt work due to crusty scripting (you can try it though) Edited June 15, 2023 by 129thVisplane i am very great at map 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Jimmy Posted June 16, 2023 (edited) This is gorgeous. The visuals are frankly stunning and the storytelling is amazingly well done. Some incredible moments of dialogue with the dogs, as well - you don't have to be a dog person to love this. Right out of the gate you're greeted with a map that clearly has had unfathomable amounts of love and care poured into it in the wake of a personal tragedy, which makes its gameplay and story all the more impactful. As someone who has channelled feelings of grief into a Doom map before, I hope you heal well from this loss over time, however long it takes. 129thVisplane Posted June 21, 2023 went ahead with a rc3/potential 1.0 (until i find a gamebreaking bug in the next 5 minutes and scramble to update it) release. once again thanks everyone for y'all's input and support and things, this wad has sure been a thing. anyway: acquire pk3 changelog: now featuring: post-boss backtracking!!! now you can go find all the obscure ass secrets (thankfully, the wise dog mentions all 4 of them in cryptic riddle) assorted readjustments and additions made to allow for the backtracking process hopefully fixed a jankass secret that had the secret sector lower deep into the earth for ? reasons. possibly a rogue script or questionable line special usage, who knows. should be fixed now minor automap display cleanup the boss now messes with you with switches and additional hellspawn during rocketfall 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
